An unassuming couple came clean after TSA agents found a well-hidden pocketknife following a thorough search.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) noticed a suspicious metal object in a toiletry bag that was subsequently flagged, Fox News Digital reported.

TSA Officer Jazmine Kramer first spotted the object during the X-ray process. After an extensive search, it was discovered that a pocketknife was hidden inside a tube of toothpaste.

A married couple who owned the bag reportedly told TSA agents that it was their son’s idea to hide the knife in the toothpaste tube.

“I was super surprised when they both said that,” Wade Brown, Jr., a security training instructor, said.

Brown was credited with finding the knife, but only after he felt the hard object following a second X-ray.

“This was the first time at DAL I had ever seen someone intentionally hide an item inside something else in an attempt to get it through security,” Brown said.

The couple voluntarily surrendered the pocketknife without incident and were sent on their way, but Brown said the ordeal was a good exercise for TSA agents when a suspicious item is not easily identified.

“If one officer sees something and another officer cannot locate it during the search, work together and communicate until you find it,” he said.

TSA Dallas Love Field Federal Security Director Amy Williams agreed.

“A knife concealed inside a toothpaste tube is not something travelers typically encounter, but it is exactly the type of threat our officers are trained to identify and resolve,” Williams said.
