Abdul El-Sayed’s dad sits on board linked to Saddam Hussein: report

While Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed vehemently denies any connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, despite alleged family ties, a report regarding his father and a link to Saddam Hussein is not helping his cause.

More from The Washington Free Beacon:

Abdul El-Sayed’s father sits on the board of a notorious Islamic charity that was once busted for funneling cash to Saddam Hussein and has been raided by the FBI and the U.S. military. The board also features two current members who belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to documents from federal prosecutors.

El-Sayed’s father, Michigan academic and imam Dr. Mohammed El-Sayed, serves as a board member of the group Life for Relief and Development, which proudly displays his affiliation on its website.

In addition to his father reportedly being on the board since 2020, the Free Beacon noted that El-Sayed’s father-in-law, Jukaku Tayeb, previously served on the group’s board.

The charity was raided by the FBI in 2006, and a grand jury would eventually charge the CEO with violating sanctions and money-laundering laws. Federal agents raided the CEO’s home, seizing “correspondence, notes, e-mails, facsimiles and other documents and records” related to the Islamic African Relief Agency, the Detroit Free Press reported at the time, citing court records.

And this is where another troubling connection involving El-Sayed’s mother comes into play.

“The Islamic African Relief Agency was a known alias for the same group for which El-Sayed’s mother, Fatten Fathy Elkomy, worked. The agency was later shut down after being identified as an al Qaeda-linked terrorist organization,” the Free Beacon reported.

The case against Life for Relief and Development was reportedly dropped in 2014 after the charity reached a $780,000 settlement with the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

All of which adds context to why President Donald Trump has referred to El-Sayed as a “jihadist,” saying he “should not be allowed to serve in our Senate.”

“Abdul El-Sayed would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go in to the Senate,” Trump said at a recent rally in Michigan.

The remarkable thing here may be that Democratic voters will still pull the lever for El-Sayed, simply because he has a “D” next to his name — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
