A father shot and killed one of the armed carjackers who attacked him and his daughter outside his new home in Pinetown, South Africa, and the entire confrontation was caught on video.
The man is Sidney Hill, an operations manager based in Durban. He had only moved into the house four days prior to the drama that unfolded outside his front door late on October 9.
Hill was pulling out of the driveway with his daughter beside him when two armed men jumped out of the back of a Renault Kiger and opened fire on his vehicle, the New York Post reported. Within seconds, Hill returned fire while protecting his daughter. The video shows him pulling a gun from his waistband. In total, 27 shots rang out in the space of 14 seconds, with one of the bullets piercing the head of one of the armed men and killing him. The four other men ran off from the scene, and authorities have not disclosed their condition.
A neighbor watching TV recalled it. “It was like a warzone with bullet after bullet,” the neighbor said. “It went on for about 20 seconds but we stayed inside until the police turned up and when we came out there was a body lying dead in a drive.”
Andreas Mathios from Marshall Security, well known as the “Durban superman” among locals, commended Hill for his bravery and quick thinking. “This man is a hero,” Mathios said. “He firstly and instinctively made sure that his family was safe. He was consistently alert, and even though there was some sort of delay in returning fire when he was fired upon at the right time, he managed to return fire and neutralize the threat. I commend him for his actions.”
This is rapidly going viral. The guy is a crack shot, and commenters have dubbed him “Chuck Norris and John Wick rolled into one.” Another wrote, “Of all the people the carjackers could have picked on they got him lol!”
The police are investigating three counts of attempted murder as well as a case of carjacking.
