Trump reportedly mulling mass pardons for junior staffers amid Dem threats

White House attorneys are reportedly considering the possibility of a mass pardon as midterms approach.

According to an article by The Washington Sun, President Donald Trump’s administration is considering Biden-style pre-emptive pardons of junior staffers to protect them in the event of future prosecution.

“A pardon for all junior administration personnel is viewed as unlikely, one source said, but the president could issue blanket pardons for all employees involved in particular policy areas, such as deportations, war or trade. Trump has previously said he would be interested in pardoning some administration officials, but the discussions happening now would apply to a far greater number of White House staff than has been previously reported,” the outlet reported.

This comes amid comments from Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Michigan, who implied that tying the administration up in legal battles would deter young people from “participating in that.”

“I wanna look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president but on the people who enabled him,” she said while speaking at a University of Chicago event. “I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration?’ … I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want. And so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message sent.”

Article III Project President Mike Davis told The Sun that such comments indicate that a mass pardon may be a good idea.

“After listening to Elissa Slotkin threatening to go after young people who joined the Trump administration, President Trump should issue very broad preemptive pardons for anyone who worked for him or in his orbit,” he said.
