Hmm… Price war between gas stations yields .97/gal, causes chaos and raises eyebrows

A price war between two gas stations provided relief for some drivers in Georgia, but also raised some eyebrows.

The gas war reportedly started over Amoco’s policy to set prices five cents lower than its neighbor. Sunoco, on the other hand, matches prices, so the back-and-forth continued until the price sank as low as .97 cents per gallon.

Word of the dropping prices spread like wildfire, and police were called to manage the traffic.

When the Sunoco manager was asked how long the price war would last, he said, “I don’t know… you have to ask [Amaco].”

“I called my momma, sister, brother,” one driver said.

Eventually, the police put an end to it and ordered everyone to leave.

Prices are back up, but the story lives on, with many questioning why it was so easy to drop prices on a whim.

Ain’t it great!?
