U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell has technically returned from a long absence after reportedly suffering a fall at home, but the Kentucky Republican is evoking memories of the hit movie “Weekend at Bernie’s” with his troubling performance.

Confusion reigned this week during a farm bill markup vote in the Senate Agriculture Committee, with fellow GOP senators and a staffer intervening when it came time for McConnell to cast his vote.

After McConnell voted in favor of the bill, Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) was seen leaning in to tell his 84-year-old colleague “no” multiple times. Chairman John Boozman (R-Ark.) would step in to confirm McConnell’s “Aye” vote was correct.

“Sen. Hoeven initially thought the vote was to overrule the chair, then realized the vote was on final passage,” a spokesperson for the senator said afterwards.

It certainly doesn’t help matters that McConnell, who is wheeled around in a wheelchair, is often seen sitting with a vacant stare, as if the lights are on but no one is at home.

Republicans took Democrats to task over both former President Joe Biden and former Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) — who died in office at the age of 90 — exhibiting clear signs of cognitive decline, yet here they are standing behind a visibly challenged McConnell.

McConnell’s official X account shared the following post after the confusing incident, prompting social media users to question just who is posting content on the account.
