Aaron Rupar earned the internet’s ire after his tasteless jab at White House press assistant Ellie Acra.
Video shows Acra herding photographers away from President Donald Trump’s family as they stood on the tarmac in Ireland, performing her job as a press wrangler. While this could normally be considered a pretty standard moment during any other administration, Rupar found it so offensive that he felt the need to insult the young woman about it.

“Another blonde Trump flunkie starts literally shoving photographers away from Trump,” he wrote on Sunday.
The bizarrely hateful comment was quickly called out by X users, including the official White House rapid response account:
This is a press wrangler doing her job — and doing it well.
Aaron, meanwhile, is gutter trash (in his 40s) who spends his days hiding behind his keyboard and making disturbing comments about women doing their jobs. Truly a sick freak! https://t.co/m9zvkAbm37

Others called Rupar out as well:
A hardworking White House staffer — who coordinates closely with the press to give them more access than any other admin — is doing her job.
Rupar is a pathetic basement dweller whose entire job is attacking female staffers for RTs from other basement dwellers. https://t.co/qQ6UZtgjxc

That’s a White House press wrangler doing her job. What an ignorant, misogynistic post. https://t.co/tW7jFIhtKP

A weird and oddly personal post. https://t.co/MZBwekXa8X

She’s a press wrangler who plays a critical role in ensuring those of us in the White House Press Corps have access to the president— while also keeping things on schedule.
It’s not a new concept, even when things get chaotic.
This post is demeaning and ignorant. https://t.co/fzS1jG1Zrn

But it wasn’t just people on the right taking issue with his commentary. Former Obama aide Stefanie Feldman slammed the remark as harmful to “the cause.”
This tweet is a great example of how X rots the brain // makes ppl go too far.
This woman is a press wrangler acting well within the norms of her job.
Let’s focus on the actually outrageous actions of the Trump Admin — there’re plenty of them!
Tweets like this hurt the cause. https://t.co/aBiMb8voeu
