GOP women concerned after Lindsay Clancy backlash sparks calls to repeal the 19th Amendment

The backlash to the Lindsay Clancy trial has included some on social media who are opining that it would be a good time to look at repealing the 19th Amendment.

The Massachusetts mother punched her ticket to infamy when she cold-bloodedly killed her three young children in January 2023, including an eight-month-old infant, then claimed that postpartum depression made her do it.

But instead of universal condemnation for her heinous actions, Clancy somehow became a heroine to millions of women who were glued to courtroom proceedings, which ended in a mistrial after a lone black juror stood on principle and refused to go along with the idea that she wasn’t guilty by reason of insanity.

The sordid circus has sparked a flood of calls to roll back the constitutional amendment granting women the right to vote, alarming GOP women who fear that such sentiment could hurt the GOP with women in the upcoming midterm elections.

“I think there’s definitely a threat in the Republican Party right now,” Mehek Cooke, who’s a political and legal strategist, warned.

“When you have these fringe activists online talking about repealing the 19th Amendment or alienating women, it really doesn’t help,” Cooke told Fox News Digital.

In one example cited by the outlet, one X user wrote, “Convict Clancy. Also Repeal the 19th Amendment!”

“This Lindsay Clancy trial has shown us How spiteful women can be, the fact that women are willing to even defend a child killer just because they want to be ok with the ‘sisterhood’ should alarm you,” another X user said.

“They will gaslight you, they will use sign language against you and even try to call you all sort of names. But guess what, they are still wrong and they know it. Repeal the 19th,” read the post.

“It seems like they had 9 drunk wine moms on that jury that couldn’t make sense of anything,” another user wrote. “Lets just repeal the 19th Amendment!”

“Social media isn’t real life,” Cooke said. “I think a lot of people out there put these arbitrary crazy ideas, but it doesn’t really reflect what normal people think and what mainstream thinks,” Cooke told Fox News Digital.

“I think you’re getting these calls because of where our culture is today. You looked at the Lindsay Clancy trial and all the women out there in pink that were continuing to support a woman who murdered three children. You’re constantly seeing this cultural push in terms of where women stand today in politics,” she added.

Another conservative woman noted that the Democrats will amplify the fringe elements to paint the GOP with a broad brush.

“You have to understand this is all a game to the Democrat Party,” Tiffany Losee, fundraising director of The Conservative Caucus, told Fox News Digital. “They’re going to push out anything that looks fringe on the right.”

Just last month, House Republicans marked the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

“The 19th Amendment debate is becoming a proxy for a much bigger culture war over women, accountability and what feminism means. The Lindsay Clancy mistrial and the women in pink poured gasoline on it,” Cooke wrote in a post to X. “At some point we have to stop giving the internet ammunition.”
