Further assurance on doling out checks to the American people found President Donald Trump explaining why, “I don’t want to do it now.”

While it remains to be seen what kind of impact the Republican National Committee’s first-ever midterm convention may have on the elections, a near-term clear focus has been put on the chief executive’s promise of $5,000 dividend checks. Sunday, the president reiterated his intent to follow through, with explanations on means, timing, and why the results at the ballot box are integral to remedy the public “treated so badly by the Democrats.”
The promise made Wednesday night in Dallas, Texas, has been raised a number of times since, including Sunday on the tarmac outside Air Force One as he departed Shannon, Ireland.
“On the $5,000 check,” asked a reporter, “when did you first come up with that idea and how exactly are you gonna pay for that?”
Trump responded, “A while ago. And that’s going forward, the $5,000 checks are going forward. And that’s because we’re taking in so much money in so different ways — including the tariffs.”
In regard to the follow-up question on how the costs would be covered, the president once again referred to previous measures of the One Big Beautiful Bill and checks for military service members.
“Yeah, yeah, no, I know exactly how we’re gonna pay. You know, it’s interesting on that because everybody said that the great big beautiful bill will never happen. It happened. They said that the 1776 for the military — $1,776 — would never happen. And it happened. They were paid,” reminded Trump. “The 5,000 is gonna happen 100%, and the reason is because our country is taking in trillions and trillions of dollars. And it’s gonna happen because the people deserve it because they were treated so badly by the Democrats and by [former President Joe] Biden.”
It was then that a question on the delay was presented, as a reporter asked why the administration would hold off writing checks and only go forward with the plan based on Republican success in the midterm elections.
“Because — I don’t want to do it now because if the Democrats go to get in, our country will be in shambles and they won’t be able to do it,” reminded the president, as Democrats have not only essentially blocked or obstructed him at every step of the way, but also vowed to undo his efforts to negotiate an American advantage in foreign trade. “If we get in, we’re taking in tremendous amounts of money. We’re taking in over $20 trillion in terms of investments. And, if the Democrats — all of that money will be thrown out. If the Democrats get in, they won’t be able to pay it.”
Before moving on to the next question, Trump added, “With me, I’ve always made money. Now I make a lot of money for the country.”
