Swalwell lawyer demands investigation over report he was spied on by U.S. Air Marshal

Eric Swalwell’s lawyer is demanding an investigation following a report that U.S. Air Marshals were spying on the disgraced ex-congressman during an international flight.

Swalwell was reportedly tracked as he boarded a flight on August 8th in Frankfurt, Germany, to Washington, D.C., by an Air Marshal who was tasked with trying to obtain Swalwell’s passcodes, according to a report by “The Atlantic.”

“On August 8, former Representative Eric Swalwell boarded a United Airlines flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Washington, D.C. He didn’t know it, but federal agents were watching him throughout the nine-hour trip,” Shane Harris wrote.

“The FBI had asked the Federal Air Marshal Service to covertly monitor Swalwell on board and to watch him use his electronic devices, to see whether its officers could visually ascertain his passcodes, according to records I obtained that have not previously been reported on,” the article continued.

“Air marshals are trained to blend in with other passengers and quietly keep tabs on their subjects, who are usually suspected terrorists or potential hijackers, not politicians.”

Swalwell’s phone and laptop were seized by the FBI under a warrant at San Francisco International Airport one week later on August 15th.

Swalwell’s celebrity attorney, Sara Azari, is crying foul over the report and demanding an investigation.

“Recent reporting that a federal air marshal was deployed to watch him enter his phone’s passcode during an international flight is an extraordinary escalation of that pattern,” Azari said, according to the New York Post.

“We have been in contact with the Department of Justice throughout this investigation and have always cooperated,” Azari continued on Wednesday. “Not once were we asked for Mr. Swalwell’s phones or devices. Had the DOJ asked, we would have complied, as we have with every other request.

“Grand jury secrecy and the Department’s own policies exist precisely to prevent an uncharged citizen from being tried in the press by anonymous government sources,” Azari said. “We have asked for and expect an investigation into the source of these leaks and disclosures.”
