Thom Tillis is one of the last globalist RINOs left standing in Washington — and with nothing left to lose, he is using his lame-duck exit to attack the man actually fixing the Pentagon.
Tillis voted to confirm Pete Hegseth as Secretary of War. Now he wants him fired for doing exactly what the job requires: cleaning out a Pentagon bureaucracy that spent twenty years losing wars and asking for more money to lose more.
The generals Tillis mourns — the ones he calls “transformative” — are the same generals who gave America Kabul, endless Afghanistan, and a military that cannot recruit or modernize. They built nothing. They won nothing. When Hegseth showed them the door, the Beltway press held a vigil.
Driscoll himself told the world the truth on his way out: “We made the progress we did with the support of Secretary Hegseth.” The White House called his tenure “outstanding leadership during historic military operations.” The story Tillis is selling does not match the facts on the ground.
The personnel changes Hegseth is making are not a scandal. They are long overdue. For two decades, a comfortable class of contractor-friendly generals cycled between the Pentagon and think tanks while the military rotted from within. That system is now being dismantled — and the people who built it are furious.
Hegseth is transforming the Pentagon back to its original design: a war-winning machine that serves American interests, not Washington insiders.
Tillis just needs to go.
