Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has awarded a $16.7 million contract for 6,000 pairs of electric shock gloves following reports that the agency would equip officers with “conductive distraction and de-escalation devices” for use in carrying out their duties.
A notice posted to a federal database on Thursday says that the agency entered into the no-bid contract with Kentucky-based Compliant Technologies LLC, which manufactures the devices known as G.L.O.V.E., or Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter.
According to CBS News, “the device operates as a conventional patrol glove until an officer activates its ‘electrical mode.’ Once activated, the device must make direct contact with a person’s skin to deliver a painful shock designed to force compliance.”

“DHS ICE intends to procure on a sole source basis 6000 conductive distraction and de-escalation devices to incorporate a controlled, non-lethal capability designed to support de-escalation objectives, reduce reliance on higher levels of force where appropriate, and enhance officer and public safety when used in accordance with approved policy, training, and accountability standards,” the document reads.
“The GLOVE is a conductive distraction and mitigation device to incorporate a controlled, non-lethal capability designed to support de-escalation objectives, reduce reliance on higher levels of force where appropriate, and enhance officer and public safety when used in accordance with approved policy, training, and accountability standards,” according to the notice.
“This technology is vital to meeting mission demands, ensuring officer safety, and achieving the President’s public safety, and achieving the President’s public safety and immigration enforcement priorities,” it states.
The GLOVE is already being utilized by law enforcement agencies, and according to a demonstration of the device’s effectiveness, it will be a useful tool for ICE agents who are in constant danger thanks to elected Democrats and the media riling up their shock troops to resist and demonizing immigration enforcement professionals as fascists and Nazis.

On its website, Compliant Technologies describes the devices as the “Force Multiplier” and “The New Protocol in Peace Keeping.”
Democrats aren’t happy, and more than a dozen lawmakers led by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) decried the deployment of the new non-lethal technology in a Friday statement calling for ICE to “abandon its reckless plan to outfit U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers with gloves that deliver painful electric shocks.”

“We write to express deep concern about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to spend up to $20 million on gloves that deliver electric shocks. […] The blatant and tragic misuse of force in Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, Houston, Maine, and other locations around the country raises significant skepticism about the agency’s professional capability to safely deploy a new tool that could be used to harm Americans without cause. Therefore, we urge ICE to cancel the contract and reconsider the purchase,” the senators wrote in a letter to acting ICE Director David Venturella.
