Disaster at China-Nepal border: Deadly wall of water leaves scores dead or missing

Horrifying footage captured the moment that a massive flash flood devastated the China-Nepal border.

Video shows locals attempting to flee as a catastrophic flood, reportedly caused by the collapse of a rock wall into a river on the Himalayan border of Tibet, potentially triggered by an earthquake, slammed into the city. The disaster has left almost 100 dead and hundreds more missing, including 300 tourists. Officials indicate that 47 Americans are among those numbers, and the numbers could continue to rise as the tragedy unfolds.

Watch:

“Though the horrifying disaster is still unfolding, initial reports suggest the floods could be the result of an avalanche triggered by an earthquake, Nepal’s foreign minister Shisir Khanal told the country’s parliament Wednesday,” The New York Post reported.

“The German Research Centre for Geosciences recorded a 4.4 magnitude quake around seven minutes before the security footage was taken at the border,” the outlet added. “The powerful torrent of water and debris swept away homes, roads and businesses in Nepal, while Tibetan officials said they feared ‘major casualties’ in the wake of the calamity, according to reports in local media.”
