The former mistress of California Governor Gavin Newsom made a wild admission in a Vanity Fair essay.

Ruby Rippey penned an op-ed for the outlet in which she revealed the more sordid details of her affair with the then-mayor. While married to Newsom’s top aide and close friend at the time, Rippey admits spending a drunk night with the governor during which she “wet the bed.”

“I wake the next morning beside him, still dressed. I am cold, almost shivering, and my dress—the one my mother warned me not to wear—is soaked from the waist down. I had passed out. I had also wet the bed,” she explains.  “He is still asleep. I find my clutch, gather my heels, and leave quickly, wanting to get back to [her husband] Alex [Tourk].”

Later, she reveals that Newsom returned a gold bracelet that had been left in the hotel room, a discreet acknowledgement of the night they had spent together.

“A few days later, back at work, my boss slips my gold bracelet onto my desk as he passes. A gift from my grandmother, left behind in the Napa hotel room. He keeps walking. We pretend nothing has changed. But everything has,” she wrote.

The affair lasted until May 2006, and ended when Rippey went to rehab. In January of the next year, she confessed her sins to her husband, who confronted his “friend” Newsom. He called a press conference to admit that the rumors of the affair were true.

His office provided a statement on the story:

The governor acknowledged his role and publicly apologized for his conduct nearly two decades ago when he was still mayor. In the time since, he met his wife, started a family and has focused on serving Californians. He addressed this chapter of his life, including in his memoir, and out of respect for everyone involved, does not have anything further to add.
