Iran struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on Friday night with ballistic missiles and drones, killing two U.S. service members and leaving a third missing in action, according to CENTCOM. Four additional soldiers were treated and released at a Jordanian hospital. The deaths — the first confirmed American combat fatalities from Iranian fire in months — bring the total toll to 16 dead and more than 430 wounded by CENTCOM’s own figures. One American soldier remains unaccounted for.

President Trump directed U.S. forces to launch Night Eight of strikes Saturday evening, with CENTCOM stating the mission was designed to “swiftly punish” the IRGC units responsible for the Jordan attack. The eighth night of operations hit coastal surveillance systems, air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites across southern Iran, per CENTCOM. Trump declared the U.S. was “winning big in Iran” and signaled no end to operations. In response, an Iranian military spokesman declared the Strait of Hormuz would “never return to its pre-war status” — a statement that, if acted upon, rewires the global energy market permanently.

Iran simultaneously expanded its Gulf retaliation campaign. Kuwait confirmed early Sunday that its air defenses intercepted Iranian missiles and drones, and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported severe damage to an oil facility in Mangaf after what it described as “repeated, brutal Iranian attacks.” Iran claimed it struck two U.S. military bases in Kuwait with surface-to-surface missiles and caused a “massive fire” — a claim Kuwait has not independently confirmed, as AP reported. Qatar reported a child was injured by falling missile debris from an intercepted Iranian projectile. Bahrain reported fresh Iranian strikes targeting U.S. aircraft at bases there as well. The State Department simultaneously issued a worldwide travel advisory telling all Americans to “exercise increased caution.”

Sixteen U.S. deaths and 430-plus wounded are Washington’s own numbers — with no independent verification mechanism in place and the U.S. controlling its own information battlefield, the true cost of this conflict remains an open question.
