“The appearance of Federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects. Our journalists report the facts and advance the American public’s right to know how their government is operating and their taxpayer dollars are being used. This brazen act should be seen as nothing more than an attempt to prevent the public from knowing what is happening in their country by intimidating journalists from doing their jobs,” said David McCraw, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel.
The reported subpoenas came after this week’s report regarding alleged security concerns on Air Force One.

“The Trump administration issued subpoenas on Friday to several journalists for The New York Times, after the news outlet reported this week on security concerns involving President Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One,” The Times reported. “The subpoenas — which seek to force the reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday — were an extraordinary escalation in President Trump’s efforts to threaten and intimidate independent news organizations.”
“In some cases, the subpoenas were delivered by federal agents who showed up at reporters’ homes.”
The DOJ Rapid Response X account responded to the reporting with the following statement:
Every administration has addressed the crime of leaking national security information. To the extent that we have to investigate breaches of national security, that’s something that we will continue to do. To be clear, reporters are not the targets, those leaking classified… https://t.co/72nDkFFzOU

Common sense is a lost art. The journalist fly on Air Force one with the president. Don’t you think this is stupid reporting for everyone’s safety?

A “brazen” act??? They are endangering the safety of @POTUS . Ironically, they are also endangering the safety of ALL the White House correspondents who fly with the President.

this shit is so hilarious coming from the nyt. they ran so fast to profit off of all their articles normalizing trump’s litany of crimes, always thinking they were too special to ever feel the heat of the crosshairs they gleefully put so many others under.
