Internal Israeli politics are spilling out into the open as the coalition headede by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett goes after the Likud government for what he calls ‘stupid comments’.
Today in Israeli media, Bennett declared, “We have a huge task ahead of us in reversing the public image of Israel. For the first time since the establishment of Israel, the brand “Israel” is a net negative in the United States. That’s a disaster. It’s a disaster!
“It starts with replacing the infantile ministers in the State of Israel’s government who, day in and day out, say really stupid things that benefit no one, create enormous harm, and exhaust and waste precious political capital.
“We are the worst in the world at public diplomacy. If Israel were a PR firm, I definitely wouldn’t hire us. Start working by not being stupid!”
“Ben-Gvir tweets meaningless and stupid things to look tough, and then I have to spend a dozen interviews on CNN and the BBC cleaning up the mess.”
Yesterday, Israeli National Defense Minister Ben Gvir said that “All of Lebanon should become Israel’s playground,” in the face of Trump pressure to reduce military action in southern Lebanon and Beirut.
Today, Ben-Gvir declared on Israeli media, “The Prime Minister of Israel is an independent prime minister. Israel is not another star on the American flag. There is no situation in which we begin operating according to the dictates of a friend—even if he truly is a great friend.
“They tell me: ‘But the Lebanese…’ The Lebanese have Hezbollah ministers in their government. The Lebanese are the ones who pursued a revolving-door policy toward Hezbollah.
“I don’t trust the Lebanese, and they also need to pay the price.
“God forbid. This is one evil replacing another. Bringing ISIS close to our border—a real ISIS that raped, murdered, and massacred people—is complete recklessness.
“JD Vance asked me, “What’s your solution?” I told him: My solution is to do to today’s Nazis what you did to the Nazis. Hezbollah are Nazis.
“The Americans are very naïve if they think the Iranians will abandon their nuclear program, cancel it, and give up all of their dreams of destroying the State of Israel.
“I think the moment is approaching when the State of Israel must understand that this responsibility is ours. It belongs to us. The moment is approaching when Israel must understand that it may need to act alone against this nuclear threat.
“You know what? I’m glad that around the world people look at me and say: “These are Ben-Gvir’s views.”
