Joy Reid trashes Fourth of July, says her Black friends aren’t celebrating

We regret to inform you that Joy Reid is weighing in on the Fourth of July, and it’s exactly what you think.

The 250th anniversary of America’s independence is rapidly approaching and while most people are gearing up to celebrate, there’s always one wet blanket who has to ruin the good vibes. Reid hopped online to declare that this year’s festivities will not feature her or her black friends, making sure to throw in that she believes it’s a “slaveholder” celebration anyway.

Watch:

“In many ways, and with apologies to my spicy white friends, because I know that my white brothers and sisters do love a Fourth of July. It is Independence Day, everybody’s barbecueing, it’s a thing,” she said. “I can promise you, black folks, we will take that day off. We will barbecue because we off. But black people-  Nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July, because it is exactly what Frederick Douglass said it is, it is the celebration of slaveholders who freed themselves from having to pay taxes to the Crown for their slave empire. And that is what it is.”

But that wasn’t all:

X users had a lot to say about Reid’s take:
