Democrat U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff used a church pulpit to impugn his Republican opponent, attacking his character with a classless attack on Father’s Day.
The Georgia Democrat, who is running for reelection, used Sunday’s service at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church to denounce Republican nominee Mike Collins as a segregationist and racist.
“Because the hatred that Mike Collins promotes is a relic of the bad old days,” Ossoff, who is Jewish, told churchgoers. “Georgia’s spirit of tolerance will overwhelm and defeat bigotry, and our defense of voting rights will be so fierce that no plot against the franchise will foil the will of the people.”

“The election deniers, they tell a lie so absurd and therefore so debasing to tell, that the act of telling it proves the teller’s total and humiliating submission,” Ossoff said, going on to attack Collins for defending those involved in the January 6 events at the U.S. Capitol.
The Democrat claimed his opponent is one “who supports war and cutting your health care and openly associates himself with bigotry and antisemitism,” adding that Collins “defends the violent mob that sacked the Capitol on the morning of January 6th, 2021.”
“To this day, this man makes excuses for those who carried out an attack to throw out your votes and install a defeated president,” he said.

According to CBS News, the one-term senator “delivered a speech that was as much about character as it was about politics, using the setting to challenge voters to scrutinize the actions of public officials while using words of the Bible.”
“The speech reflected a long-running tradition in Black churches across Georgia and the South, where faith and civic engagement have often intersected,” the outlet added.
Many social media users disagreed, ripping into Ossoff and the church for allowing the speech.
