Just when you may have thought the media couldn’t be more disingenuous, a new egregious headline or story emerges.
Newsweek hit rock bottom and received a lengthy community note on X for comparing the deadly incidents involving Kyle Rittenhouse and Karmello Anthony.
Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges and was found not guilty by a jury after he was forced to defend himself in the violent riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There was ample video/evidence of the violence Rittenhouse encountered before he defended himself, resulting in the death of two men and the injury of another.
More recently, jurors found Anthony guilty for the stabbing of high school football player Austin Metcalf and was sentenced to 35 years. Metcalf’s murder was witnessed by his twin brother and many others during a high school event. Anthony had been asked to leave a restricted area before he plunged a knife into Metcalf’s heart.
According to Newsweek, however, both boys were judged by ‘tribalism’, not law:

Newsweek’s editorial take earned itself plenty of scorn.
“Holy hell, this is a Newsweek house editorial? That community note, hoo boy,” Fox New Political Analyst Guy Benson reacted on X.
And Benson was far from alone:
Yes. Because Kyle was defending himself and Anthony murdered someone. This is why leftist news outlets can NEVER be trusted. You will deliberately lie about things caught on video.

That’s literally the entire difference. Rittenhouse repeatedly tried to evade his attackers, to get away from them. Only after a prolonged period of stalking, attacks, and harassment, did Rittenhouse use his weapon to defend himself when cornered. Anthony…

Rittenhouse was attacked multiple times by multiple people who used and or had weapons.
Anthony stabbed an unarmed kid because: wah, I can’t sit in a tent I’m not authorized to use.

Yeah in every relevant way possible. Most importantly Rittenhouse ran to avoid conflict and didn’t fire until he was chased down. Anthony by contrast was given a dozen chances to leave and stayed to provoke conflict
