Washington, D.C. — A report claiming White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is preparing to step down following the November midterm elections has sparked a swift and forceful denial from Wiles herself, who dismissed the story as “Friday fiction.”

According to a Friday, June 5, 2026, article in the Daily Mail, five anonymous White House insiders alleged that Wiles, 69, feels “drained” by internal chaos, ongoing health challenges, and recent Cabinet appointments by President Donald Trump. The piece suggested she views the midterms as a natural “off-ramp” after more than a decade working closely with Trump.

Wiles, the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, has been a key figure in Trump’s orbit since his 2016 campaign. She managed his successful 2024 reelection effort before assuming the top staff role in January 2025.

Claims of Tension and Health Struggles

The Daily Mail report highlighted friction over Trump’s recent promotions, including Florida real estate executive Bill Pulte to acting Director of National Intelligence and former personal lawyer Todd Blanche as Attorney General. Sources claimed Wiles opposed Pulte’s elevation, viewing it as a direct slight after she had pushed to have him removed over a controversial social media incident involving an AI-generated “Jesus meme” featuring Trump.

It should be noted that there has been a new focus on prosecuting deep state corruption under AG Blanche, as opposed to Pam Bondi, whom Wiles worked alongside at Ballard Partners.

Insiders also pointed to Wiles’ ongoing treatment for early-stage breast cancer, diagnosed in March 2026, as a contributing factor to her fatigue. Visitors to the White House have reportedly been cautioned not to approach her closely to avoid infection risks during treatment.

When first contacted by the Daily Mail, Wiles did not outright deny plans to leave but rejected any suggestion of personal tension with Trump or dissatisfaction with his appointees, calling such claims “outlandish” and “completely false and defamatory.”

Strong Rebuttal from Wiles and the White House

Hours after the story published, Wiles took to X (formerly Twitter) with a pointed response:

“After an accomplishment filled week by President Trump, I have the pleasure of reading a piece of Friday fiction, courtesy of the Daily Mail. To be crystal clear, I am not going anywhere. I am honored and proud to serve President Trump, proud of our team and remain fully committed to advancing his agenda on behalf of the American people.”

A White House spokesperson reinforced her commitment, stating that Wiles continues to work “at full steam” despite her health treatments. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung dismissed anonymous critics as “cowards” and emphasized unity within the administration.

Pulte himself praised Wiles in a statement to the Daily Mail, calling her “a force for good” and expressing pleasure in continuing to work with her.

Context of Administration Dynamics

The report emerges amid broader challenges for the Trump administration, including the ongoing Iran conflict, inflation concerns, and midterm preparations. Several allies linked to Wiles have recently departed or shifted roles, fueling speculation about internal realignments.

However, as of Saturday, June 6, 2026, no other major outlets have independently corroborated the anonymous sourcing in the Daily Mail story, and Wiles’ public denial has been echoed by Trump allies who labeled the piece an attempt to manufacture drama.

Wiles has not commented further on potential future plans beyond her current role. For now, she remains firmly in place as one of the most powerful figures in the Trump White House.
