The attempt by The White House to cement a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, the only Christian-run country in the region, but which is controlled by the Iranian proxy army Hezbollah in the south, has been difficult to achieve.
President Trump admittedly lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu recently over that exact issue.
The Israeli Defense Force has invaded the territory south of the Litani River in an attempt to disarm Hezbollah. The IDF has also struck the Shia sector in southern Beirut many times over the last several months, targeting Hezbollah leadership. The Lebanese Armed Forces are incapable of disarming Hezbollah, although efforts are ongoing to bring their weaponry and force structure under Lebanese government control.
Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir declared today — “A ceasefire in Lebanon is a fantasy. Hezbollah will not withdraw north of the Litani River.
“Hezbollah has grown stronger and stronger.
“Under these circumstances, Netanyahu should have said to Trump, “Mr. President, we love you, but the answer is no. We are not going to agree to a ceasefire with an organization that endangers Israel’s security.””
