I’m doing this because it is the right thing to do.
This article is simply to set the record straight, to tell the truth. Tucker says over and over he wants the truth; well, here it is. Ready?
I have followed Tucker Carlson for years, and have generally agreed with much of his work. I especially applauded his work on the lies behind the Ukraine war, and I was flown to Maine by his team at Fox to appear on his show for an hour interview on Fox Nation several years ago. I also appeared on his show on Fox a handful of other times to discuss the Ukraine conflict; ending the Ukraine war is a passion of mine, so I was especially thankful to Tucker for having me on.
Second, I have been against any war with Iran for some time, vocally so. However, now that we are in it, I want an outcome that is good for the United States and my children’s future. I don’t believe American ground forces in any size would be a benefit in Iran. There would be many casualties, and I’m not sure they could be effective in achieving President Trump’s goals. Besides, they simply aren’t needed (there is already a capable force on the ground).
I am strait-up America First, a Constitutionalist.
That is why I am confused over Tucker’s recent support for the Iranian regime, and his denigration of the Iranian Resistance, The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), which I know well.
I was contacted in 2018 while writing for The Washington Times by the MEK’s offshore political arm, the National Council of Resistance in Iran, or the NCRI. Over the last decade, I have spent much time with them, and took the time to learn their history, and their story. I am not on their payroll, I don’t work for them. I am not their foreign agent. But, I have been to many of their events.
What attracted me to their story, enough to write a book about it, was their history of persistent resistance to the oligarchy of the mullahs, to the point of death. Their motto is — Paying the Price. I am attracted to those fighting for freedom, and they have been doing so for over four decades.

The book description on Amazon reads: “The mess hall was 60×30 meters; it had a stage, from which 12 ropes hung and underneath each rope there was a chair. The groups of prisoners they brought in would rush to jump on the chair; they had very high moral. They would shout, “Hail to the MEK!, before they were executed… What if there was a story that had never been told, a story that spanned almost five decades, a story that involved the great conflict between the superpowers, a story that would enchant the reader with great drama, pain, suffering, and resilience, and was literally a story that could change the world? And what if it was all completely true? The People’s Mujahadeen of Iran, or Mujuhadeen e Khalk, (PMOI/MEK) are the least understood resistance force in the world, they are also the most-maligned, due to overt campaigns against them by Iran’s Mullahs and even the West. Almost no one knows their true story.
This is a tale of resistance against the Shah during the 1970s, to betrayal by the American government in the last decade. The story involves the Reagan administration to the Biden White House, who is Hell-bent on giving Iran nuclear weapons. It is a narrative of shocking abuse, mass murder, and a refusal to yield to evil, no matter the cost. It is a story that will open the eyes of the reader and could literally change the world with regime change in Iran in the recognizable future. The book is full of emotion, drama, and first-person accounts of the horror of torture and execution. It is also a narrative of the amazing determination these people have shown as they have persevered through decades of defamation by the West, and persecution by the Mullahs. The story tells of a movement to bring tolerant Islam to the world, run by a woman…the horror! We will tell the 40 year story of the PMOI/MEK in this timely, shocking, heartbreaking description of the brave group of people determined to bring freedom to Iran, where over 120,000 have been executed by the regime.
“Todd Wood has taken on one of the most successful disinformation operations of the Iranian regime and in so doing exposed the Washington DC press corps which has failed the MEK and the people of Iran. For too long, the Iranian people have fought the regime mostly on their own and at great cost. This important book comes at a critical time for the opposition which is growing from strength to strength even as streets across the country run with their blood.” —Lara Logan, award-winning journalist and former 60 Minutes correspondent
I have spent time in their camp in Albania, their headquarters in Paris, and visited them in their office in Washington, D.C.
There is one thing that Tucker said that I completely agree with — they are feared by the regime. In fact, the MEK is the only organization the regime fears. So much so, that there is a global propaganda campaign against them in the Western press, and successive U.S. and E.U. administrations. The words used on Tucker’s show — assassin, violent, cultish, etc. are exactly the words used by the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and the U.K. press. I have seen these lies spewed about them for years.
I believe Tucker has been duped into that campaign by the MOIS, or their allies.
I have sat with and interviewed many of the early members of the MEK, as well as many of the youth that today are involved with the resistance. I have sat with ayatollahs tied to the MEK and heard their pleas for a tolerant version of Islam.
The supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran, at CPAC, were much more aggressive, threatening, and on the verge of violence, than I have ever seen with anyone that belonged to the MEK. In fact, if you look past their aggressive forays into Iran to bring down the regime, I have seen absolutely no tinge of violent behavior. On the contrary, they have always been gracious hosts, and open to any questions. Nothing was off the table. And, I have asked many tough questions.

Over ten years I have never seen any evidence of support from Israel. However, that doesn’t mean Mossad support doesn’t exist. It is possible. I do realize they are well-funded. I always thought the financial support was from Sunni Saudi Arabia, an arch-enemy of Shia Iran.
I have spent time in the MEK’s Paris HQ and witnessed the massive satellite feed telethons they hold with members of the Iranian diaspora around the world. If they have as many allege, so little support from the Iranian people, how are they able to raise large sums of money from Iranians exiled around the world to fund their movement?
And what was this insinuation that since their HQ is in Paris, they must be bad. Come on Tucker, you’re better than that. That was propaganda.
Many pro-Israel influencers came out hard recently against the MEK. That tells me Tel Aviv may not be their main financial backer. But, I have no information or way to prove that. Well-known influencer Laura Loomer who declares she is a devout Zionist, and obviously has Zionist connections, came out swinging against the MEK in early 2026.
.@SecRubio @POTUS please re-designate MEK and all of its affiliates as foreign Iranian terrorist organizations!
They never should have had their terror designation taken away, but @HillaryClinton and @BarackObama removed it to appease Iran.
GOP lobbyists need to stop lobbying… https://t.co/tGaYSZVnWl

I have seen no evidence of communist behavior or ideology in my time with the MEK. They are Muslim, and seem devout. What they are is a paramilitary force, complete with a military legal code and regulations, no different than the Pentagon, or the Continental Army in the 18th century. They wear uniforms…especially the women. They have a command structure. I see them as an effective, well-organized resistance force.
I have seen no evidence of MEK members being ‘assassins’ as Tucker and his guest insinuated. In fact, they are the ones attacked over and over again by Iranian assassins. Over 130,000 have been executed or killed by the regime. See the videos below. I personally was at an event where the Iranian government hired assassins to blow up the venue; luckily, the explosives were intercepted and defused in Paris in 2018.
The FBI has filed charges in the United States against Iranian intelligence agents attempting to assassinate NCRI officials.
By the way, yes, the MEK was on the U.S. terrorist list for a period of time. Why? Because friends of the Iranian regime in the U.S. government put them there as an appeasement to the IRGC, that’s why. It was a Federal judge who forced them off due to lack of evidence, not Obama as Tucker’s guest said on his show. Obama flew $6 billion in cash to the mullahs. He was not a friend of the MEK. Again, that was propaganda in the worst way, telling partial truth. I expect better from TCN.
I have sat with young women from the MEK violently tortured by the regime, girls young enough to be my daughter. I’ve seen their hands blown off. I’ve seen the scars. I’ve seen images of the assassinations by Obama’s Iranian regime friends in Iraq, that brutally murdered many of the MEK.
Thousands of Iranian youth are murdered every year by the regime; many of those killed belonged to the MEK. Yet, the kids keep showing up to protest, with the threat of imminent torture and death. They chant ‘Death to the Dictator!’
If their cause is so fake – why are the kids willing to die? As, the video below shows.
George Washington killed the enemy. Was he an assassin? Or, was he a freedom fighter? I guess it depends on who is telling the story. If an MEK resistance fighter torches a regime building, kills a regime soldier attacking Iranian youth, or helps foreign forces take down the regime, is he an assassin or just fighting to free his country from oppression?
I found the commentary between Tucker and John Kiriakou extremely disingenuous and intentionally false.
What Tucker said on his show with his guest is simply not true. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he just has been fed misinformation for an agenda. I have my suspicions what that agenda is, but that is for another column. This column simply is to deal with the mistruths out there regarding the MEK, many of whom I regard as friends.
What is true is — someone doesn’t want an organic grassroots group in Iran to take power.
Is it Iranian regime officials? Is it the Russians? Is it the British monarchy?
Tucker was obviously doing someone’s dirty work.
I’ll let you guess why that is.
There were some very incoherent arguments made by tucker and his guest — not fact, just scary allegations.
As I mentioned above, I have asked many tough questions of the group during my research for the book. The main one is about Marxism. I was told there were some Marxist elements in the beginning in the 1960s when they began resisting the Shah. It was the beginning of the Cold War, and the MEK saw the Shah as a puppet of American and British power, installed to control the Iranian people. They were correct of course.
However, some of the original members told me the Marxists broke off from the original MEK organization and formed a splinter group. These were the people who attacked American interests in Iran during that period. They were eventually killed. Of course, the MEK could have been lying to me. I have no way to know. But, as I said, I have seen no evidence of Marxist ideology in the group.
Below is the MEK’s government in exile, the NCRI’s, 10 point plan for the future of Iran. Does it sound Marxist to you? Of course, it could be all fake, but it should be discussed and investigated as the decision making process in the American government moves forward regarding Iran.
Political Freedom
The NCRI is committed to political freedom. Under its government, citizens would have the political freedom to create political parties, the media would be free of censorship, and all individuals would enjoy unrestricted access to the internet.
The Abolition of the Death Penalty
The NCRI and Maryam Rajavi oppose the use of the death penalty in all cases.
Secular Government
The NCRI is also determined to separate religion from government. Iran would become a place of religious freedom and pluralism, with followers of all religions welcome and free to practice their religious beliefs.
Equality
Maryam Rajavi and her NCRI government would uphold equality in all areas of Iranian society. Women would receive equal participation in political leadership, have the freedom to choose their clothing, their husbands, and be free to divorce.
Independent Judiciary
The NCRI is dedicated to the establishment of an independent judicial system. The accused would be considered innocent until proven guilty and have the right to legal counsel, defense in court, and a fair trial.
In Defence of Human Rights
Following the fall of the mullahs, the NCRI would uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, eliminating discrimination against religious and ethnical minorities. The Iranian Kurdistan region will receive a plan of political autonomy, and all minority languages and culture will receive the necessary protections.
A Market Economy
Maryam Rajavi and the NCRI seeks to instate a market economy, with private property and investment. Investors will receive relevant protections and the NCRI will govern over a revitalized economy and environment.
The Pursuit of Peace
Iranian foreign policy will be based on the pursuit of peace and stability in the region. The NCRI will respect the UN Charter and seek peaceful coexistence with its international neighbors, both in the Middle East and beyond.
A Non-Nuclear Iran
Finally, the NCRI and Maryam Rajavi remain committed to establishing a non-nuclear Iran, free from weapons of mass destruction.
The MEK has support inside the country, especially from the youth. I know, I have talked with scores of them. The MEK has generational support inside Iran. I have talked directly with members of the MEK from different generations of the same family.
I am no stranger to conflict, having been rocketed in Sderot outside of Gaza, fled Kyiv during the Russian invasion, and been to Donbass several years ago, and have spent much time in Beirut supporting the Christian community there. I can tell fake narratives when I see one, and I have not seen Tucker’s charges against the MEK validated during with my time spent with the MEK, learning and reporting.
Tucker paints an image of the Iranian regime as having the support of the people. In my experience, nothing could be farther from the truth. The regime has terrorized its citizens, and is despised.
The regime has destroyed the Iranian economy, stolen even the water from the Iranian people, and is a brutal oligarchy.
Tucker’s guest mentions the aggressive lobbying campaign conducted by the MEK in the United States. And, what is wrong with that exactly? If you want freedom for your people, wouldn’t you do the same thing? Tell me again why that is bad?
Regarding the ‘cult’ accusation. I have asked the MEK directly about the command structure imposed by its female leadership. The answer was — yes, we are a paramilitary force, and we are completed focused on removing the regime. We have a chain of command and we have rules if you want to be part of the MEK. This includes celibacy and other demands. Their view is the regime is so brutal, that it takes this type of dedication to bring it down. Again, of course that could be all lies, but their explanation for their way of life should be heard, not immediately denigrated.
In the end, the MEK is not asking for weapons, money or military involvement from the American people.
They don’t want Iranian infrastructure destroyed.
The only thing they are asking for is public support of their mission. They boast of over 1,000 resistance units on the ground inside Iran. I have seen evidence of that activity. They believe they can take down the regime by themselves, and don’t need American military action.
Now ask yourself — who would not want that outcome? And that is who may be in Tucker’s ear.
There can be no doubt that Tucker wishes the murderous regime to stay in place. If you really want freedom for the people of Iran, and a nation-state that is not anti-American, why would you denigrate the only entity the regime is scared of?
Who benefits from Tucker’s obvious theater?
I’d be happy to come on your show Tucker and have an honest discussion.
Below are videos of real assassinations of MEK members allowed by the Obama administration, and the Bush administration, who disarmed, then abandoned them during the Iraq War.
I could be wrong in my analysis of the MEK. However, I felt it was important to tell the truth as I see it. As a minimum, their story should be allowed to be told, and the American people can make up their own mind. They should not be dismissed out of hand as they could be an effective force to help achieve American goals in-county.
