Cobra climbs up tourist’s pants at luxury hotel performance and kills him

A German tourist died in Egypt after a snake charmer’s performance went horribly wrong.

According to Bavarian State Police in Germany, the man was on vacation with two other family members at a luxury resort when the freak incident occurred.

“During the snake charmer’s performance, one of the snakes crawled into the trousers of a 57-year-old man, resulting in a bite to the German tourist’s leg,” authorities said on Monday.

The snake charming performance is reportedly part of the hotel’s entertainment program, and officials believe both of the snakes used in the show were cobras. While close interaction with guests is not uncommon, sometimes involving snakes being draped around the necks of audience members, the man was bitten after one of them crawled under his pants.

“He subsequently exhibited clear symptoms of poisoning and required resuscitation,” the report noted. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the man passed away at the hospital. Germany’s Memmingen Criminal Police Inspectorate is investigating the incident, and authorities are awaiting the results of a toxicology report. The identity of the man has not been released, but police indicated that he was vacationing from the Unterallgäu region of Germany.

He was staying in the popular Red Sea luxury destination of Hurghada, which attracts tourists with its all-inclusive, upscale packages and excursions. It’s unclear whether the snakes believed to be cobras will continue to be utilized for shows in the future following this fatal incident.
