Facts and theories blended throughout a bombshell interview as the former CDC director made a COVID-19 origin claim prior to any suggestion of a Chinese lab leak.
Throughout their responses and the myriad subsequent testimonies and investigations, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Robert Redfield were often at odds, particularly with regard to the origin of the virus. During a recent podcast discussion with author Dana Parish, the former head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reaffirmed his stance on the lab leak with a proposed start in North Carolina.
Joining Parish on her “3rd Opinion Podcast,” Redfield steered the conversation toward the possible engineering of COVID as he said, “You were just asking me how I think… this vaccine was — this virus was engineered. I think it was intentionally engineered as a part of a biodefense program.”
“Some have said that they are concerned that it was actually developed here and China was right. Is that possible?” posited Parish to which her guest replied, “Well, I don’t know if they were framed, but I think there is a real possibility that the virus’ birthplace was Chapel Hill.”

Having been asked about the United States’ role, the virologist said, “Well, I think it was substantial. And this is why, you know, when you look at the accountability for China, their accountability is not in the lab work and in the creation of the virus. Their accountability is not following the international health regulations after they realized that they had a problem, and allowing people like me at CDC to come in and to help them within 48 hours like they were obligated to based on the treaty.”
“But the U.S. role was substantial. One is they funded the research both from NIH, the State Department, USAID, and the Defense Department. All four of those agencies helped fund this research. Secondly, the scientific mastermind behind this research is a guy named Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina, and he was very involved in this research,” asserted Redfield.
“I think he probably helped create some of the original viral lines, but I can’t prove that,” added the former CDC director. “But he was very involved.”
After retiring as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci was often heard being outraged over any allegations or implications suggesting wrongdoing on his part, including countering claims from Redfield on matters like who had participated in calls on the origin of the virus.
“He’s wrong on every single account,” the face of the COVID response told NewsNation host Chris Cuomo after Redfield had testified that his lab leak theory had kept him out of a conference call.
During his peddling of “The Science,” Fauci routinely knocked suggestions of gain-of-function research funding. Meanwhile, a previous report presented similar claims to Redfield’s as it detailed a U.S. taxpayer-funded study a year before COVID became a household word that linked the National Institute of Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The facility, then overseen by Fauci, published research on a “SARS-like WIV1-coronavirus” imported from a Chinese lab with authors including a known WIV collaborator from the University of North Carolina, Ralph Baric.

Parish proceeded to ask her guest, “What happened at the military games in October 2019?”
“Well, in August/September, the initial cases of COVID in Wuhan began. Clearly, by the middle of September, there was a significant problem. Okay, because — and I can’t remember the exact date. I think it’s in the public domain now, it was classified, but I think it was Sept. 19 — but they did three things,” he explained. “They changed the leadership of the lab. Since it was a dual-use lab they changed it from civilian to military. So the military was now put in charge of the lab. They did something highly irregular, [which] is they deleted the research sequences of COVID viruses that they had done years before. So the whole database was deleted.”
