As early results showed both the House of Representatives and Senate set to turn over GOP control to the Democrats with major upsets in what were considered Trump-backed safe havens, the president prepared to “become a Political Pundit, both good and bad,” on the outcome.

While most had expected the gavel to pass from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to the Democrats, far fewer thought it likely that the Senate would turn blue — let alone with a cushion. At the time of this post, the Associated Press reported 54 Democrat Senate seats and a 10-seat advantage in the House, on top of gubernatorial losses that included Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas.

In the Senate, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas were all flipped for the Democrats while Michigan voters opted for Abdul El-Sayed over former Rep. Mike Rogers, leaving their Senate leader Chuck Schumer insisting “relief was on the way.” At the same time, the presumptive nominee for House speakership, New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, insisted “America is Back.”

Speaking with Fox News as ballots were still being counted, Trump was asked by anchor Bret Baier how he intended to deal with the loss of GOP control in Congress, to which he brought up the presidential veto.

“It’s been done before, as you know, numerous times. It’s the power of the veto. It’s one of the stronger powers that a president has, and they’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them. And after a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll call, and they’ll say, ‘How do we get this stuff done?’ and we’ll work together,” he contended. “I have a lot of friends that are Democrats, believe it or not. I’ve already spoken to some of them. I have had … calls from meaningful Democrats … they want to talk, but I have the power of veto and the power of veto, you know, it’s impervious.”

Asked by anchor Martha MacCallum about the takeaways, the commander-in-chief spoke of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, “I think part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I have done with Iran.”

“The Democrats did a good job” and “They fought hard,” the chief executive said of the opposition’s campaigning that included promises of investigations and obstruction. Having suggested his presence on the ballot would have made the difference, Trump was asked about the enthusiasm gap for the base, to which he told Baier, “They didn’t like the candidates.”

“Some of the candidates that I endorsed fought me, and they didn’t like me. They fought me. This MAGA base is incredible, the most loyal, the greatest people, the people that built America,” continued the president. “I was trying to get people in that were — people that, frankly, let’s say, I didn’t get along with. But for purposes of the party, I went along with it, and the base would tell me, hundreds of thousands of people would just say, ‘Sir, they weren’t for you.’”

“In other cases, they just didn’t inspire the people to get out and vote,” he added.

Trump also remarked that the outcome “had nothing to do with my cabinet” and he had no plans to seek new members for the time being.

Meanwhile, as Democrats reveled in the down-ballot victories and the impact they would have at both the federal and state levels, the president sounded off on a specific race where he’d endorsed early.

Before expressing on Truth Social, “I’m going to become a Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!” Trump faulted now-outgoing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) for handing over Austin to the left. “If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost. He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!”

Capitol Hill’s radical Election Night swing found President Donald Trump reminding about an “impervious” recourse as he promised to rip into the Republican losses.
