Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted that the political attacks she faced during her 2016 presidential bid were \u201creally effective.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sitting down for the Wednesday episode of the On with Kara Swisher<\/em> podcast, Clinton discussed the efficacy of political smears amid the controversial Vivek Ramaswamy ad featuring his Democratic opponent\u2019s estranged mother. She specifically recalled the \u201cads and memes and claims and conspiracies\u201d about her as she faced off against Donald Trump in 2016, which ultimately led to him serving his first term as president.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there an ad that stuck with you that was against you that you were like, I cannot believe they just did that?\u201d Swisher asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, most of the really effective ads and memes and claims and conspiracies about me happened online,\u201d Clinton replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou remember you were a lizard,\u201d Swisher recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonest to goodness, you know, Facebook was the worst offender against me and Pizzagate, which you know was, you know, just a huge lie that took off,\u201d the former secretary of state said. \u201cAnd you know, I can\u2019t really catalog them all because there were so many of them. And you know that was like 10 years ago and we were frankly ill prepared, unaware of how effective it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m asking if there\u2019s one that got you like, oh my God,\u201d Swisher clarified.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look, I think Pizzagate was really effective when people, you know, when these ads against me, these really terrible, horrible, false claims about me were running all over the internet, some with Russian money for heaven\u2019s sakes,\u201d Clinton noted. \u201cThe people who were campaigning for me, they were on the phones, they were knocking on doors, they would have voters say, \u2018You know what? I can\u2019t vote for her because she kills people or she traffics children\u2019 or whatever they were told and that they believed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when, you know, my supporters would say, \u2018Where did you hear that? It\u2019s not true.\u2019 They\u2019d say, \u2018Oh, I saw it on the internet.\u2019 And you know, the naivete and the susceptibility of people seeing a video or seeing something in print that looked legitimate was so powerful and that\u2019s why you can\u2019t count out all of the money that is being spent against our candidates to lie about them again,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s interesting \u2018cuz you know, that Pizzagate thing did resonate. It really did. I\u2019ve had lots of people- The lizard one was driving me crazy just cuz I was like, she\u2019s not a lizard,\u201d Swisher added.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ll show you my scales next time I see person,\u201d Clinton snarked.<\/p>\n
