Leftists are celebrating the victory over \u201cfar-right\u201d Fl\u00e1vio Bolsonaro, which will result in Lula\u2019s 4th term as the country\u2019s president, as a defeat of United States President Donald Trump. Because, of course, they are. But Variety<\/a> believes that celebrity fan accounts had a lot to do with the massive comeback.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an unprecedented online wave, the day after Lula came second in the first round, fan accounts for major artists such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Katseye, Demi Lovato, Harry Styles, Katy Perry and Selena Gomez ignited a movement, offering their massive platforms to amplify the current president\u2019s campaign and help boost their access to young audiences,\u201d the outlet reported. \u201cThe quickly spreading movement began with a Billie Eilish fan account, with the singer\u2019s famed brother, musician Finneas, posting a picture making the pro-Lula \u2018L\u2019 sign on social media soon after.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSwifties in particular have rushed in droves to support Lula\u2019s campaign, proliferating popular memes that included inserts of Lula in popular Swift music videos and an image of the famed blonde singer wearing Lula\u2019s now signature hat (which fans have named \u2018Taylula\u2019),\u201d the article adds. \u201cFlags printed with such images were frequently spotted at demonstrations, with fans also posting the hashtag #SwiftiesComLula (Swifties With Lula, in literal translation) on social media.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re inspired by these artists, and Taylor is always talking about how young people should take the lead,\u201d one S\u00e3o Paulo Taylor Swift fan, identified as Josiane, said.<\/p>\n

Lula himself noted the circumstances in a rally speech earlier in the month.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure whether to open this speech with \u2018comrades\u2019 or \u2018fandoms from all over Brazil,\u2019\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

The incumbent also received support from the film industry, which expressed concerns about a potential industry collapse in Brazil if Bolsonaro were to take over.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuillermo del Toro, Pedro Almod\u00f3var, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton and Javier Bardem, among many more, joined Brazilian stars to urge a vote for Lula,\u201d the outlet noted.<\/p>\n
