CBS News predictably cherry-picked footage to air from an interview with DHS General Counsel James Percival.<\/p>\n

But despite the effort by \u201c60 Minutes\u201d to make the Trump administration look bad, the Department of Homeland Security official pulled back the curtain on what really transpired during his interview with contributor Gianna Toboni.<\/p>\n

Toboni\u2019s questioning focused on the small percentage of illegal immigrant detainees who were accused or convicted of crimes such as sexual assault and murder. The fact that any number of criminals left to roam America\u2019s cities while in the country illegally seemed insignificant to the reporter.<\/p>\n

But Percival\u2019s responses never made the final cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are in this country illegally, it is virtually impossible for you to live in this country and not commit additional legal violations\u2014working without authorization, identity theft,\u201d Percival said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of illegality that goes on when you are breaking the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

He even noted how he \u201cexplained the relationship between compassion and justice\u201d to Tobani\u2019s interrogation.<\/p>\n
