Democratic strategist James Carville is expressing some hesitancy about his party\u2019s post-midterm future.<\/p>\n

While Carville can go off the rails<\/a> with his rhetoric<\/a> and predictions<\/a> from time to time, he is also counted among those who balk at the idea of a DSA takeover of the Democratic Party. To this end, he believes that the party needs to have a large, decisive victory in the midterms, lest they end up hostage to the radical whims of their own minority.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0The Bulwark<\/em>\u2018s Bill Kristol, he admitted that if one party is to have a razor-thin majority in the House, he would prefer it be the Republicans, as it would force the party to engage in negotiations with Democrats. He suggested that a thin Democratic majority would force the party to pander to the DSA and leave no room for the moderate voices.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be disappointed if it comes in at 225 House seats. That would almost be \u2013 I would rather the Republicans keep the House by five than the Democrats to win by five because if that happens, they\u2019re hostage to the DSA,\u201d he said. \u201cLike Hakeem [Jeffries] cannot move. There\u2019s no place for him to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if you have a close Senate, [John] Fetterman would keep [Chuck] Schumer [drinking] Pepto-Bismol all night,\u201d he added. \u201cI think this is one of those races where margin matters a lot. Winning big is almost as big as winning, which is weird, but it\u2019s a nightmare at 225.\u201d<\/p>\n

And this is not a new sentiment for the strategist, who has urged Democrats to \u201cstand up\u201d to the DSA in the past, even going as far as to suggest the party should refuse to recognize folks like Darializa Avila Chevalier as members, should they win their general elections in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that the congressional Democrats should see her as a member of the Democratic Party. She actually describes herself as a Democratic Socialist. I don\u2019t have anything in common with someone that says that they\u2019re against interracial dating or doesn\u2019t want any incarceration for convicted felons. That\u2019s just not who I think the Democratic Party is,\u201d Carville told Fox News\u2019 Kayleigh McEnany in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey ought to let her be a Democratic Socialist. But I don\u2019t think they should \u2014 you know, you can\u2019t kick her out of Congress \u2014 but she doesn\u2019t have to be in the Democratic Caucus,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
