Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., believes that Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., should face harsh punishments if she\u2019s guilty.<\/p>\n

Emmer, the highest-ranking GOP lawmaker from the state Omar represents, is not taking her side as she is investigated for allegations that she lied on her federal immigration paperwork to obtain United States citizenship. In a statement to Fox News Digital<\/a>, he admitted that \u201cthere have been rumors for years\u201d surrounding Omar and said that she should face appropriate consequences if she is found guilty.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say first she should probably serve time in the gray bar motel and then get the hell out of here. She should go back to where she came from,\u201d if the allegations are true, he stated. \u201cIf it\u2019s determined that she lied to gain citizenship, then absolutely, she should go back to the front of the line.\u201d<\/p>\n

This comes after federal agents raided Omar\u2019s home on Monday morning, reportedly collecting a cellphone and other items pertaining to the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe allegations stem from her father becoming a U.S. citizen in 2000. Omar was believed to be 17 at the time, and as a minor, was automatically qualified for citizenship under U.S. law along with him,\u201d Fox News reported. \u201cBut recently, it\u2019s been alleged that she was actually 18 and would have needed to go through the process herself at that point.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Omar has dismissed both the claims and the raid as simply her being politically targeted by President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

But Emmer believes that the judge signing off on a warrant is evidence that the move was not political in nature.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat judge had to determine that there was probable cause that a federal crime has been committed. And I\u2019ll tell you what, as long as it was Ilhan Omar, it was going to be scrutinized to the very detail,\u201d he suggested. \u201cSo the fact that they issued the warrant in the first place and then executed it, I mean maybe after all these years, someone is finally going to hold Ilhan Omar accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
