Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) wasn\u2019t alone in being raided this week as a reported grand jury investigation \u201cextends far beyond\u201d the most well-known allegations against the native Somalian.<\/p>\n

Monday, those holding out to see someone accused of corruption face some kind of accountability were given further cause to hope when federal investigators were spotted hauling boxes of evidence from the Washington, D.C. home of the lawmaker.<\/p>\n

Amid reports of widespread Somali fraud in Minnesota and lasting questions about the validity of Omar\u2019s immigration to the U.S., NewsNation\u2019s Leland Vittert detailed how something bigger was at play with indictments expected to be \u201cstunning in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friday, the chief Washington anchor and host of \u201cOn Balance\u201d shared how evidence collected from the congresswoman\u2019s trash prior to the raid suggested more to the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMultiple sources have confirmed to me that federal agents went dumpster diving to get DNA from Minnesota Congresswoman [Omar] and her family before that blockbuster raid on her D.C. home earlier this week. I\u2019m told this investigation extends far beyond the most familiar case and accusation against Omar that she married her brother to help him gain citizenship or that she falsified her birth year to immigrate as a minor<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Multiple sources have confirmed to me that federal agents went dumpster diving to get DNA from Minnesota Congresswoman @IlhanMN and her family before the raid on her D.C. home earlier this week. Our reporting suggests investigations go far beyond simple immigration fraud.<\/p>\n

NewsNation sources say the likely coming indictments will be stunning in nature and far beyond anything the public has understood the case to be about.<\/p>\n

Further supporting the notion that the grand jury investigation is bigger than just Omar\u2019s immigration, Vittert explained that at the same time her home was being searched by federal agents, over a dozen other raids were taking place elsewhere.<\/p>\n

As he put it, the \u201clikely coming indictments will be stunning in nature and far beyond anything the public has understood the case to be about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently led by the Minneapolis Homeland Security Investigations Office, portions of an investigation that began and was closed under President Joe Biden\u2019s administration were reopened under President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

As was previously reported<\/a>, Omar\u2019s phone, computers, and passport were all seized as part of Monday\u2019s raid.<\/p>\n

While allies lined up to demonize Trump and allege political motivation for the investigation, Omar\u2019s office asserted, \u201cThis raid by Trump\u2019s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,\u201d continued the statement. \u201cNow, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Office of Congresswoman Omar released the following statement:<\/p>\n

Countering such suggestions,\u00a0Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin expressed on \u201cThe Charlie Kirk Show,\u201d\u00a0\u201cI will tell you, we wouldn\u2019t move forward, and President Trump didn\u2019t want to move forward either, unless we knew that it couldn\u2019t be politically driven.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was about enforcing, once again, our nation\u2019s laws. And it\u2019s a strong case,\u201d assured Mullin.<\/p>\n
