A price war between two gas stations provided relief for some drivers in Georgia, but also raised some eyebrows.<\/p>\n

The gas war reportedly started over Amoco\u2019s policy to set prices five cents lower than its neighbor. Sunoco, on the other hand, matches prices, so the back-and-forth continued until the price sank as low as .97 cents per gallon.<\/p>\n

Word of the dropping prices spread like wildfire, and police were called to manage the traffic.<\/p>\n

When the Sunoco manager was asked how long the price war would last, he said, \u201cI don\u2019t know\u2026 you have to ask [Amaco].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI called my momma, sister, brother,\u201d one driver said.<\/p>\n

Eventually, the police put an end to it and ordered everyone to leave.<\/p>\n

\"\ud83d\udea8\"#BREAKING: Two neighboring gas stations in Georgia got into an all-out price war\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and drivers walked away paying just 97 CENTS A GALLON!!!<\/p>\n

People began FREAKING OUT and calling everyone they knew to come get gas!<\/p>\n

On one side of Marietta Street, there\u2019s an Amoco.
\nRight next door, a Sunoco.<\/p>\n

Amoco has a policy: always price gas 5 cents lower than the neighbor.<\/p>\n

So Sunoco matched it.<\/p>\n

Then Amoco knocked off another nickel.<\/p>\n

Then Sunoco matched it again.<\/p>\n

Over and over.<\/p>\n

One driver said when she pulled in it was $1.54\u2026 then $1.44\u2026 then $1.39\u2026<\/p>\n

Then it hit 97 CENTS.<\/p>\n

Prices this country hasn\u2019t seen since the 90s.<\/p>\n

The Amoco manager explained it plain and simple: \u201cnow it\u2019s a war.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the Sunoco manager was asked how long it would last, he said, \u201cYou need to ask them.\u201d \"\ud83d\ude02\"<\/p>\n

Word spread FAST.<\/p>\n

One driver said, \u201cI called my momma, sister, brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cars lined up for blocks.<\/p>\n

It got so wild that Powder Springs police had to show up and shut it down, with one officer yelling, \u201cEverybody leave, goodbye!\u201d<\/p>\n

Once traffic calmed down, they let folks back in to fill up.<\/p>\n

A woman named Wartanna Haywood said she normally pays about $90 to fill up her truck, but during the gas war she paid $1.14 a gallon.<\/p>\n

Her total? FIFTEEN DOLLARS.<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cAin\u2019t it a wonderful day for America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes it is, Wartanna. Yes it is. \"\ud83d\ude02\"<\/p>\n

The war is over now and prices are back up\u2026<\/p>\n

Prices are back up, but the story lives on, with many questioning why it was so easy to drop prices on a whim.<\/p>\n

So they can make up numbers at the pump at their choosing. Hmmm.. So $4.60 is just a made up number. Got it. Can\u2019t hate the system enough.<\/p>\n

@jclary00 @mattvanswol Not usually at most gas stations the owners don\u2019t usually own the gas. A oil company does and they are the ones that make all the money on gas. Except for a small % they give to the station owner. The owners make their money on the inside store sales snacks, alcohol drinks.<\/p>\n
