After musing whether he would \u201cannihilate\u201d Iran, a report on a rejected ceasefire was followed by President Donald Trump proposing a new name for a critical waterway.<\/p>\n

Amid the backdrop of the United Nations General Assembly, the ongoing conflict with Iran looked no closer to a resolution. In fact, after a report from The Wall Street Journal addressed the commander-in-chief\u2019s rejection of a seven-day ceasefire leading back to the negotiating table, the president wasted little time reacting with a troll, dubbing the Strait of Hormuz \u201cTrump Strait.\u201d<\/p>\n

Within the hour that the Journal cited U.S. officials on Trump\u2019s rejection of Iran\u2019s proposal, the chief executive shared an image of the passage on Iran\u2019s southern border with the new identifier. According to the Journal\u2019s report<\/a>, \u201cPresident Trump has rejected Iran\u2019s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms \u2026 Tehran\u2019s proposal would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz and resumed nuclear talks in return for the U.S. lifting its blockade of Iranian ports, which is causing deep damage to the country\u2019s economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump says openly that Tehran is begging for a deal after the midterms that dismantles its nuclear program,\u201d continued the Journal. \u201cBut privately Trump is skeptical Iran would meet his demands and has told his staff that he sees a renewed bombing campaign as likely, the officials said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters at the United Nations on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi contended that talks on the Islamist regime\u2019s nuclear program would only resume if the United States \u201caccepts this plan,\u201d agreeing to a ceasefire including Lebanon, waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales and lifting the naval blockade.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd on day seven, the talks with the U.S. will be started for the final deal on mutually agreed subjects,\u201d contended Araghchi.<\/p>\n

During his speech at the U.N., the president appeared intent on reminding Iran who had military superiority as he addressed the consideration to \u201cannihilate<\/a> the Islamic Republic and do it quickly,\u201d all the while speaking of a timeline for a deal that had the Middle Eastern nation waiting until after the midterms.<\/p>\n

Given the stakes of the upcoming elections and waning favorability as a result of economic conditions, myriad Republicans voiced disfavor for holding off so long.<\/p>\n

As was reported, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told KTAL, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to bring that to a resolution. And the Strait of Hormuz not being open affects commerce. It directly affects gas prices and fuel prices. And also, you know, the price of groceries, for example, because they got to be transported, and the higher fuel prices are a factor in that as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
