A small homeless camp has sprung up next to New York University dorms in Manhattan, according to a New York Post report.<\/p>\n

The camp consists of \u201ca long blue tarp covering office chairs, luggage and bicycles on the sidewalk,\u201d according to the Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people are nice, some people think we invade their space,\u201d a homeless bum named Raymond, 45, told the Post, adding that he\u2019d rather be outside than in a shelter, especially with Zohran Mamdani as mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe past mayor had the police and they just came through and took stuff,\u201d Raymond said. \u201cNow they ask if we are ok and need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Raymond was correct.<\/p>\n

\u201cMamdani\u2019s policy for dealing with the encampments handcuffs cops, and instead sends city outreach workers to try to sweet talk and offer services to the vagrants \u2014 who often just move down the street,\u201d according to the Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are plenty of services out there if you want it,\u201d another named Dave said. \u201cThis is a choice. If you wanted to be inside, you could. I have friends who froze to death over the last two winters just because they wanted to be outside.\u201d<\/p>\n

He too was right, according to Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refuse to use the term homeless because that was the biggest marketing coup on the part of advocates was to brand them homeless when the problem has nothing to do with housing,\u201d she said during a recent podcast appearance with The Daily Wire host Andrew Klavan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has everything to do with mental illness, chemical abuse, and social disaffiliation. These people, frankly \u2014 I\u2019ve spent a lot of time on Skid Row in Los Angeles, in Santa Ana, in the vagrant territories around City Hall, talking to people \u2014 they are entitled,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are not gentle lambs who are out there braving the elements because they have nowhere to go,\u201d she continued. \u201cTo be very blunt, they are obnoxious. They have a sense of [entitlement].\u201d<\/p>\n

As an example, she pointed to some \u201cgutter punks\u201d in San Francisco she spoke with, whom she said, \u201cride the rails up and down the West Coast to panhandle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne guy who was just so offensive, I said, well, why should I give you money? He said, because you have a dollar and I don\u2019t, therefore, I\u2019m entitled to your dollar,\u201d Mac Donald revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese people should not be there, but again, they have been glamorized and sanctified by the advocates who hate capitalism,\u201d she concluded. \u201cThey want them there as visible symbols of the social injustice in the U.S. because we\u2019re too capitalist a society.\u201d<\/p>\n

All this comes as NYC\u2019s homelessness has reportedly reached a five-year high.<\/p>\n

\u201cNearly 5,000 unsheltered people were estimated to be living on streets, parks, under highways, and in subways and public transit stations across the city during an annual survey conducted in March \u2013 an astounding 45% jump from the 2022 fiscal year,\u201d according to the Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

Street homelessness in NYC hit a record this year.<\/p>\n

The official count found 4,991 people sleeping outside in March, up 11% from last year (NYC HOPE 2026). That\u2019s the highest since the city started counting in 2005. More people on sidewalks and in parks, especially in Manhattan\u2026<\/p>\n

Some have blamed this growth on Mayor Mamdani\u2019s decision to end homeless encampment sweeps.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just letting them do whatever they want,\u201d a resident named Jeanne said. \u201cAnd they took away the police\u2019s powers, so they can\u2019t do anything about it. It\u2019s a disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

The way it works is that once an encampment pops up, city workers must waste seven days kissing the butts of the homeless by offering them \u201cservices.\u201d Only after the seven days have passed can the police finally move in and do something.<\/p>\n
