AI Hallucinated Nuclear Weapons Components Aboard Chinese Vessel Bound For Iran<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Could runaway artificial intelligence (AI) spark a future WW3?<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t need movies like Terminator 2 and its SkyNet to help us imagine this,<strong> it&#8217;s 2026 and there is already a terrifying real-world precedent<\/strong>\u00a0that could have kicked off a shooting war with nuclear-armed China.<\/p>\n<p>A human analyst within the US intelligence community utilized data gathered by AI for a report that was later widely circulated across classified Pentagon channels, except that the chatbot which was relied upon <strong>in effect<\/strong> <strong>hallucinated nuclear weapons components being transported aboard a Chinese vessel bound for Iran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/sffile1.jpg?itok=mJt0t7wm\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/sffile1.jpg?itok=mJt0t7wm\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"784bf7b2-78ec-4a4f-b154-a7f080f97767\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/sffile1.jpg?itok=mJt0t7wm\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>Illustrative: US 7th Fleet file image, Recon Marines conduct exercises<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Naturally this set off the highest alerts in Washington in the middle of an active hot war which President Trump launched ostensibly to prevent this very thing &#8211; Iran obtaining a nuke and atomic weapons components.<\/p>\n<p>From there military planning kicked into high gear, with a special forces boarding operation imminent. Supposedly <strong>elite assets were already airborne, ready to descend on the Chinese ship in question<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But then, <strong><em>&#8220;the operation was halted only after officials took a closer look at the intelligence report and discovered that it had been produced with assistance from an AI chatbot,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/09\/18\/politics\/us-military-ai-false-intelligence-china-ship\">CNN<\/a> reports in a bombshell Friday exclusive. The episode reportedly happened last spring.<\/p>\n<p>The severe error was realized with barely enough time to call off what could have been the geopolitical blunder and disaster of the century,<strong> &#8220;The chatbot had incorrectly identified the material the vessel was carrying<\/strong>.<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In essence the United States found itself based on completely manufactured &#8216;intel&#8217; <strong>potentially headed for conflict with China<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As if to to preempt anyone who might be tempted to think the account is merely being hyperbolic or needlessly sensational, one official (unnamed) source told CNN that the intelligence assessment, which was <strong>&#8220;entirely false&#8221; &#8211;<\/strong> in the end <strong>&#8220;almost started a war<\/strong>.<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While Pentagon leadership, including\u00a0US Special Operations Command Pacific, has yet to respond to CNN&#8217;s queries, the outlet pieces together the alleged chain of events and how this could have possibly happened in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/09\/18\/politics\/us-military-ai-false-intelligence-china-ship\">following<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmu759m93000c356sbxp0s6fd@published\"><em>In this particular instance, <strong>the analyst queried a chatbot about some intelligence reporting on the ship\u2019s manifest that originated with US Special Operations Command Pacific, based in Hawaii<\/strong>.
