Touting talking points,\u00a0House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) insisted, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to follow the facts,\u201d before answering whether or not another presidential impeachment was inbound.<\/p>\n

Sunday on ABC\u2019s \u201cThis Week\u201d with George Stephanopoulos, the interview with the wannabe House speaker began with an attempt at framing artificial intelligence as a crisis in need of action before a whiplash pivot to President Donald Trump\u2019s talk of $5,000 dividend checks. Later, after addressing Hasan Piker and his own potential at securing the gavel, the question of impeachment found Jeffries noncommittal, calling to \u201d let the chips fall where they may.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mention of a day-one intent to \u201chold the crooks accountable\u201d should Democrats win control of Congress, Stephanopoulos asked if that meant a third impeachment of Trump, to which he said, \u201cNo, we haven\u2019t ruled anything in, and we haven\u2019t ruled anything out in terms of impeachment.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then brought up Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin and California Rep. Robert Garcia, who are poised to become chairs of the House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee respectively with a Democratic majority. \u201c\u2026 both of them are doing a tremendous job. We\u2019ve got to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, and then let the chips fall where they may in the best interests of the American people, so that the House, once again, can function like a separate and coequal branch of government and a check and balance on an out-of-control executive branch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hakeem Jeffries admits Democrats have no grounds to stand on impeaching President Trump if they gain power.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, just after another attempt was made on Trump\u2019s life, Jeffries did not deny impeachment was under consideration, but rather contended<\/a> a \u201cDay 1 impeachment\u201d was not a top priority. Before that he had vowed \u201cmaximum warfare\u201d against the president.<\/p>\n

Of course, given the left\u2019s track record of lawfare \u2014 and persistent Trump Derangement Syndrome \u2014 steering clear of yet another impeachment would certainly be a more surprising path than pouncing on an opportunity to accuse the chief executive of high crimes and misdemeanors.<\/p>\n

Jeffries feigned ambivalence followed the certainty from the president himself, who, at an August rally in South Carolina for Sen. Darline Graham (R), said amid disruptions<\/a> from protesters, \u201cI\u2019m going to be impeached. They\u2019re gonna impeach me. They have no idea why.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for actions he would commit to, the minority leader pegged the left\u2019s priorities as stopping the president\u2019s tariffs, bringing an end to America\u2019s actions against Iran, and passing a new round of subsidies for Obamacare after failing to leverage the expiration of the previous subsidies during the record-breaking Democratic-led government shutdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are some of the things that I think we can begin to do, but it\u2019s going to have to be a bold, aggressive legislative effort that we sustain, not just for the first 100 days, but for the first year and the entirety of the Congress,\u201d said Jeffries as reactions tore into the \u201cparty of losers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeffries has been threatening Republicans with fire and brimstone since the 2024 election if Democrats regain a majority. Now that the 2026 elections are coming, he is toning down the rhetoric. The polling must not have been positive for that message.<\/p>\n
