President Donald Trump responded to a pardon request in the Lindsay Clancy case from defense attorney Kevin Reddington.<\/p>\n

The president has finally addressed whether he would get involved in the outcome of the case, calling it \u201cvery sad\u201d but saying that the issue is a \u201cstate situation\u201d and not a federal matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no winner there. There\u2019s no win, no matter what you do. Three children are dead,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

While Reddington was aware that Trump had no real authority to issue a pardon directly, he was hoping that the president could use his influence to bring about a favorable outcome for his client following the mistrial.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a good attorney. I\u2019ve heard from other people he\u2019s a very good attorney,\u201d the president said of Reddington. \u201cI hope they can work it out. That\u2019s something they have to work out \u2026 There is no win there.\u201d<\/p>\n

He had previously expressed his opinion on the killing of three children, allegedly as the result of the overmedication of Clancy\u2019s postpartum symptoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a shame, it\u2019s a horrible tragedy. I see what\u2019s happened, and it looks like it\u2019s a hung jury. I think the judge just said it\u2019s gonna be a mistrial, I assume there\u2019s going to be another trial,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a terrible situation. She did a horrible, horrible thing. Can\u2019t be worse. But you\u2019ll find out what the price to pay is, there\u2019ll be a price. Could be mental institution or jail, or something. But I guess they gotta go through another trial; it\u2019s too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following this statement, Reddington encouraged the president to actually get involved rather than just offer his opinion on Clancy\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case, may very well, Mr. President I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she\u2019s been through, and consider a pardon,\u201d Reddington said to\u00a0Good Morning America<\/em> host George Stephanopolous.<\/p>\n
