President Donald Trump set his sights on \u201cHistory worth teaching\u201d as an exit at the Smithsonian paved the way for an exhibit and \u201ccolossus\u201d honoring a Founding Father ahead of a milestone date.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout him, our Country and our Freedoms wouldn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n

The administration\u2019s ongoing mission to \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d inherently calls on the roots of the nation as inspiration for a path forward. Now, as a purge of woke ideology led to a resignation at the Smithsonian, the president sought to gear up for the 300th anniversary of George Washington\u2019s birth with an exhibit and permanent statue to replace a \u201cstrange modernist sculpture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friday, Trump called attention to a sculpture that had been displayed at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix as he used Truth Social to request the Smithsonian launch a five-year exhibit leading to Washington\u2019s tricentennial while proposing a statue nearly triple the size be commissioned for permanent display.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am calling on the Smithsonian Institution to honor the Life and Legacy of George Washington, America\u2019s Greatest Hero, with a five-year exhibition at the National Museum of American History, beginning now, and continuing through, February 22, 2032, the 300th anniversary of Washington\u2019s birth,\u201d wrote the president. \u201cI am also calling on the Smithsonian to erect a 30-foot \u2018Colossus statue\u2019 of the Father of Our Country outside the Museum, to replace the so-called \u2018Infinity\u2019 sculpture that stands there today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat strange modernist sculpture tells visitors nothing about America, inspires no one, and honors none of our Great American Heroes,\u201d he contended of the m\u00f6bius strip-style sculpture. \u201cGeorge Washington does. He is easily America\u2019s Greatest Hero. Without him, our Country and our Freedoms wouldn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Trump\u2019s post further called out the museum for failing to celebrate the Founding Fathers sufficiently as the nation\u2019s semiquincentennial was marked, a reality\u00a0juxtaposed against things like the \u201cCenter for Restorative History\u201d and a \u201cDecolonization Plan\u201d that came under Lonnie Bunch III.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur current exhibit describes the period of 1492 to 1776, including Christopher Columbus\u2019s discovery of the New World, and the European settlement of America, as the \u2018Great Unsettling\u2019 of the Continent,\u201d wrote the president. \u201cThat tells you all you need to know about how twisted the thinking is today at the Smithsonian.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week, Bunch tendered his resignation<\/a> as secretary of the Smithsonian Institution in the wake of Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum notifying the board of alleged evidence \u201cthat the Smithsonian leadership\u2019s institutional culture may have resulted in significant violations of Federal antidiscrimination law, including creating a hostile work environment and engaging in practices that classify individuals and allocate opportunities, funding and other benefits on the basis of race, ethnicity and other protected characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pushing for a \u201cCenter for American Heroes,\u201d the chief executive, who previously called for a \u201cGarden of Heroes,\u201d suggested, \u201cTell the stories of Americans who faced great challenges, overcame them, built great things, defended our Country, made America better, and helped our Nation more fully live up to our Founding Ideals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a History worth teaching, because it is America\u2019s story,\u201d he concluded, in part adding, \u201c\u2026 there is no better person to start with than George Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n
