Antisemitic performers have begun pulling out of a Portuguese comedy festival because Jerry Seinfeld will be headlining it.<\/p>\n

The Lisbon International Humor Festival, scheduled for late October, announced this week that Seinfeld, a legendary Jewish comedian, will be headlining the show.<\/p>\n

Like most Jews, Seinfeld is fond of Israel, the only Jewish state in the world. For this, he\u2019s faced deep backlash from antisemites who resent Israel\u2019s justified actions in Gaza \u2014 actions that they say amount to \u201cgenocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA festival includes many artists, and in this case, one of the names insistently defends ideas and actions that I consider indefensible,\u201d one performer who pulled out, actress In\u00eas Aires Pereira, wrote on Instagram, according to The Times of Israel<\/a>. \u201cWe cannot relativize or normalize genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

While she didn\u2019t name Seinfeld, it was clear she was referring to him.<\/p>\n

The comedic duo Cebola Mol also took to Instagram to announce their decision to pull out of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cHello, friends. Our show on October 31 will not take place,\u201d they wrote. \u201cWe will celebrate justice, freedom, and joy at a future opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

But according to Tim Young of the Heritage Foundation, there\u2019s just one problem: Seinfeld can\u2019t be cancelled.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Fox News<\/a>, Young further argued that the performers who quit the show are only hurting themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anybody who is a comedian, anybody who is a performer, would want to work with basically the most successful, if not one of the most successful comedians in world history at this point,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guy\u2019s a billionaire from his comedy and his writing, and I don\u2019t know why you would want to walk away from it,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Young added that the performers pulling out are just catering to the choir.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re \u201ca group of woke people performing for woke people,\u201d he argued. \u201cThey know who their audience is. They\u2019re behaving the way that their audience would behave and just playing into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Either way, Young is confident the pull-outs will have zero effect on Seinfeld.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t cancel somebody like him,\u201d Young stressed. \u201cComedy is uncancellable. You get to a certain level, you\u2019re not going to be affected by it, and it\u2019s important that people like Seinfeld \u2026 come out and say, \u2018Hey, you know, this is bad, the things that are happening.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAdults can\u2019t be adults anymore,\u201d Young concluded. \u201cEverybody has to whine and cry. They will sacrifice their own success for a stupid stance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seinfeld has a history of angering antisemites with his blunt assessments of their chicanery and bull.<\/p>\n

\u201cFree Palestine is, to me, just \u2014 you\u2019re free to say you don\u2019t like Jews,\u201d Seinfeld told Duke University\u2019s student newspaper<\/a> last year when asked about people who try to get him to say \u201cfree Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust say you don\u2019t like Jews,\u201d he continued. \u201cBy saying \u2018Free Palestine,\u2019 you\u2019re not admitting what you really think. So it\u2019s actually \u2014 compared to the Ku Klux Klan, I\u2019m actually thinking the Klan is actually a little better here because they can come right out and say, \u2018We don\u2019t like Blacks, we don\u2019t like Jews.\u2019 OK, that\u2019s honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seinfeld famously dismissed a leftist last year when said leftist told him, \u201cfree Palestine\u201d:<\/p>\n

Seinfeld has also on a previous occasion said that so-called \u201cPalestine doesn\u2019t exist.\u201d The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim advocacy group linked to Islamic terrorism, didn\u2019t appreciate his remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201cPalestinians are not a punchline and their existence is not up for debate,\u201d the group said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cPalestine exists. Palestinian children exist. Palestinian families exist. Palestinian history, culture, land, identity and rights exist. To deny the existence of Palestine is not comedy, commentary or political opinion. It is dehumanization.\u201d<\/p>\n
