Houthi militants in Yemen launched a large-scale attack on Saudi Arabia’s southern energy infrastructure on Tuesday, setting multiple oil and gas facilities ablaze in an assault on civilian infrastructure that wounded 73 people across four cities, the Saudi-led coalition said. Spokesperson Colonel Turki al-Malki confirmed the casualty toll and vowed the coalition “will take all necessary operational measures to confront this terrorist militia.”<\/p>\n

The strikes targeted key energy facilities in the south of Saudi Arabia \u2014 the kind of attack that Iran’s proxies have been threatening since Iran warned Gulf energy assets were “vulnerable” last weekend, following a tit-for-tat series of ship attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The assault drove oil prices to six-week highs as global markets absorbed another supply-chain shock.<\/p>\n

Yemen’s Houthi-run Saba News Agency said the movement would release a statement describing a “large-scale military operation” against Saudi Arabia. The Houthis, who declared a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, have escalated their campaign from Red Sea ship harassment to direct attacks on Saudi infrastructure on the Kingdom’s own territory.<\/p>\n

Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei doubled down on dual threats via X on Tuesday: “In recent days, Washington has received a clear warning from Iran’s new missiles” \u2014 citing the Qassem Basir ballistic missile that Iranian media reported was fired at U.S. warships near the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend. “Economic warfare will be met with a maritime exclusion zone across the Persian Gulf to the blockade perimeter. The operational posture toward U.S. warships and bases has been fundamentally recalibrated,” Rezaei wrote.<\/p>\n

The IRGC is pressing Hormuz shipping from the north while the Houthis pound Saudi Arabia from the south \u2014 a coordinated proxy pincer designed to raise the cost of U.S. Gulf operations while avoiding a single-front confrontation with American forces.<\/p>\n

Red Sea and Hormuz disruptions are now compounding simultaneously. Commodity vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to roughly 10 ships per day over the past ten days \u2014 the lowest level since May \u2014 squeezing global oil and LNG supplies that once relied on the strait for roughly one-fifth of world throughput.<\/p>\n

Emergency teams were deployed to the Saudi fire scenes, and the energy ministry confirmed operations were temporarily disrupted at several facilities. Saudi Arabia has not announced retaliatory strikes; the Saudi-led coalition said further military action against Houthi positions remains on the table.<\/p>\n
