The gap is wider than the swings in the US and Europe over the period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The divergence shows how Asia\u2019s growth trade had come to rely on a handful of chip stocks<\/strong>, with their reversal now prompting investors to look for cheaper options. Asian value stocks remain inexpensive relative to both growth shares and global peers<strong>. A nearly 20% weighting of financials in the regional gauge offers another potential tailwind from higher yields.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe value rotation in Asia is set to expand and extend as semiconductor\u2019s downtrend is not yet finished,\u201d <\/em>said Hao Hong, chief investment officer at hedge fund Lotus Asset Management in Hong Kong. \u201c<em>The market has clearly entered a new phase as funds will favor those names with solid growth and track records.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/asia%20value.jpg?itok=YXSHrmU7\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/asia%20value.jpg?itok=YXSHrmU7\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"185f9426-0757-489c-9591-210cbdb2b2dc\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"272\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/asia%20value.jpg?itok=YXSHrmU7\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Value stocks in Asia are trading at 10.8 times their one-year forward earnings estimates, compared with 17.9 times for the US and 12.3 times for Europe, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The multiple for Asian growth stocks is 13.<\/p>\n<p>A rise in bond yields across major markets can potentially support bank earnings by widening lending spreads. That gives the region\u2019s value trade an additional earnings lever at a time when higher yields and Federal Reserve rate-hike bets are putting pressure on long-duration growth stocks.<\/p>\n<p>MSCI\u2019s financials gauge has climbed 12% in Asia this quarter, while information technology, which comprises about a third of the regional index, is down 5.6%. It was dragged by a recent selloff in some of the global best performers of the past year, including SK Hynix Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.
