{"id":663820,"date":"2026-09-06T01:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T01:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=663820"},"modified":"2026-09-06T01:35:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T01:35:00","slug":"new-images-reveal-chinas-stealth-drone-at-secretive-area-51-base-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=663820","title":{"rendered":"New Images Reveal China&#8217;s Stealth Drone At Secretive &#8220;Area 51&#8221; Base"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">New Images Reveal China&#8217;s Stealth Drone At Secretive &#8220;Area 51&#8221; Base<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Aviation researcher Andreas Rupprecht posted footage on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/andreas-rupprecht-3a67341b_uav-wz-malan-activity-7501667237985021952-xBZ3?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAB2tt3UBzIkynjfurnTkavv-S1_HDQpu2Ak\">LinkedIn<\/a> that appears to show <strong>China\u2019s next-generation high-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance drone<\/strong>, an aircraft he estimates is \u201c<strong>comparable in size to the US Air Force\u2019s B-21 Raider<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rupprecht wrote on LinkedIn that the WZ-X drone was spotted at a <strong>secretive air base in China\u2019s Xinjiang region, known to some as China\u2019s version of Area 51<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Two new images<\/strong> of the PLAAF\u2019s latest and largest intercontinental HALE ISR #UAV, provisionally referred to simply as the #WZ-X, have been leaked, apparently showing the aircraft somewhere in Xinjiang. <strong>The UAV was first spotted on satellite imagery<\/strong> in May 2025 at the PLAAF\u2019s UAV test centre at Malan Air Base in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwestern China.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rupprecht continued:<\/p>\n<p><em>In recent years, Malan\/Uxxaktal (ZWML) has developed into the PLAAF\u2019s main test centre for trialling UAVs and UCAVs of all types, while also serving as the base of the 178th UAV Brigade. <strong>Satellite imagery from 2022 onwards shows extensive expansion<\/strong> of the base\u2019s infrastructure, including new hangars, taxiways and facilities likely linked to the previously unknown, very large flying-wing UAVs WZ-X and the similarly mysterious UCAV GJ-X, <strong>both of which are roughly comparable in size to the B-21 Raider<\/strong>. Rough estimates suggest a wingspan of about 52 m and a length of roughly 14 m. Its two engines, of unknown type, are reportedly fed by a central top-mounted intake, allegedly covered by a conformal mesh to reduce radar cross-section. Apart from its very wide span, the design appears to feature a relatively spacious central fuselage section and a dorsal SATCOM antenna. <strong>Its range is estimated at more than 20,000 km, with a normal cruising altitude of 18-20 km and a cruising speed of Mach 0.5-0.65.
