A 500+ crowd of mostly minority teens took over a Colorado shopping center on Sunday and immediately started vandalizing and stealing from shops.<\/p>\n

The multicultural crowd of kids aged between 14 and 17 gathered at the Hoffman Heights shopping center in Aurora because of \u201can unpermitted sporting event,\u201d according to The Denver Post.<\/p>\n

After arriving, some of the teens \u201cwent into nearby businesses, including a restaurant and grocery store, and vandalized property and stole merchandise.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the businesses that was hit was a Burger King:<\/p>\n

The police eventually declared an unlawful assembly and deployed over 70 officers to disperse the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you commit a crime in a crowd, you should expect us to use every tool that we have available to work to identify you and hold you accountable,\u201d Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said in a statement. \u201cThis crossed the line from a gathering of young people into a police matter because of the behavior and criminal conduct of some of those involved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not tolerate groups taking over roadways, disrupting businesses, damaging property or stealing under the belief that being part of a large crowd provides anonymity. It does not,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Chamberlain also slammed the parents of the teens.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also need parents and guardians to understand the role they play,\u201d he said. \u201cKnow where your children are, who they are with and what they are being invited to through social media. When hundreds of young people suddenly gather and behavior begins to escalate, the consequences can become serious very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice officers should not have to be pulled away from other community emergencies to manage behavior that could have been prevented,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

According to the New York Post<\/a>, the supposed \u201csporting event\u201d was organized by online influencer Grady Ferrick as a means to market a vitamin brand.<\/p>\n

\u201cFerrick, a one-time Division III basketball player at NYC\u2019s Houghton University, has over 362,000 Instagram followers,\u201d according to the Post. \u201cHe shared photos of himself amongst the younger crowd in the shopping center parking lot, standing on top of a U-Haul truck and aboard a purple school bus.\u201d<\/p>\n

This latest \u201cteen takeover\u201d comes just weeks after another mob of teens<\/a> broke into a family-owned Los Angeles market store and caused over $30,000 in damages.<\/p>\n

Nathan Abdullatif, the owner of A-Z Market, wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser that the break-in happened during a so-called \u201cstreet takeover\u201d involving 100-150 cars and a \u201cgroup of individuals\u201d equipped with power tools.<\/p>\n

Using the tools, the \u201cgroup\u201d broke through the store\u2019s front window and security gate, after which dozens of hooligans reportedly stormed the store and ransacked it. In the process, they broke windows, damaged fixtures, and stole goods.<\/p>\n

The break-in led to damages totaling roughly $30,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cA-Z Market is more than just a store to us\u2014it is our livelihood and a place we have worked hard to build and serve our local community,\u201d Abdullatif wrote in the fundraiser. \u201cWe are asking for your support to help us repair the damage, replace the stolen merchandise, and get our business back on its feet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with local station KABC, Abdullatif called the attack on his family store \u201cheartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so shocking. It doesn\u2019t even feel real,\u201d he said. \u201cYou always see this in the media. You always see this in other places but when it happens to you \u2013 and everything you\u2019ve built over the years \u2013 it\u2019s just very hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

He and his co-owner, Steven, were especially shocked at how the thugs seemed to enjoy ruining their business.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen them coming in the store, looting, jumping all over. They went over the counter, broke it. It\u2019s like they are having fun doing this thing,\u201d Abdullatif told CBS News. \u201cWithin 10 minutes, all your hard working going off; it breaks my heart. We\u2019ve built it with the whole family. My mom, dad, brother, sister; we\u2019ve built it with love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in shock. Total shock,\u201d Steven added. \u201cIt was devastating.\u201d<\/p>\n
