The same could not be said for the chief executive’s beef deal set to import millions of pounds of ground meat, prompting explainers on how to determine whether or not the cattle was American.

Last month, Trump announced that over 90 days, some 300,000 metric tons of ground beef would be imported without tariff under the agreement it be sold 25% below market price. To help consumers concerned about untraceable meat raised in unknown conditions, the New York Post published some pointers on what to look for at the grocery store.

“Americans should check the ‘Product of USA’ or ‘Made in the USA’ labels, as this means the item is exclusively from animals born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the US. Shoppers may also see ‘Born, Raised, and Harvested in the USA’ or ‘American Grassfed Association (AGA) Certified,’” detailed the Post’s senior consumer reporter, Aurielle Weiss. “These labels signal if the beef is imported or blended and should have the country of origin listed in small print next to or near the nutrition label or ingredient list.”

Her report noted that the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows ground meat sourced from multiple countries to be “commingled,” and further detailed that “packed” or “processed” allows for origin outside the country, as do inspection and grading stickers.

“Labels or stickers with a ‘USDA Prime/Choice/Select’ also don’t have anything to do with the meat’s country of origin,” explained Weiss.

Consumers aren’t alone in voicing concern with the president’s plan as U.S. Cattlemen’s Association President Justin Tupper expressed doubt about the potential for it to bring down prices at the same time he contended, “it’s not gonna help the ranchers to increase their herds.”

Meanwhile, initial questioning on the plan found even Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins unable to answer the question as to where the beef would be imported from: “I am not privy to talk about that. I think the conversations are still going on, and that’s [U.S. Trade Representative] Ambassador [Jamieson] Greer who’s finalizing what exactly that looks like, and I think the president’s involved in that as well.”

As frustrated as the beef import deal made many, there was comparable support late last week when Trump put the meat processing cartel on notice.

Lauding ranchers and farmers, the president called out the monopoly in processing as he wrote on Truth Social, “Ranchers and Farmers have always been a number one priority for me. They work very hard, are smart, efficient, and immaculately CLEAN, but for years I have heard that they have had a tremendous problem with the Big Processors, who many say are a nasty Monopoly.”

“There are, essentially, 4 of them, a very non competitive number, and they make life miserable for our wonderful Farmers and Ranchers, and I can’t let that happen, can I?” continued Trump, who announced plans to “break this powerful monopoly” and make it permissible for the ranchers and farmers to process the meat themselves.

<img decoding="async" src="https://americanwirenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/sg-beef-1200x630.jpg" title="Want American beef?
