Lindsey Graham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bill \u2026 would issue mandatory sanctions not only on Russia\u2019s leadership and energy sector, but also on abetters of Russia\u2019s defense industry and so-called shadow fleet in an effort to curb the flow of cash to Moscow\u2019s war chest,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/08\/07\/senate-passes-russia-sanctions-bill-01029073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported at the time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">JUST IN: The U.S. Senate advanced Lindsey Graham\u2019s Russia sanctions bill by an 86-12 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries that continue buying Russian oil and gas<br \/>\nand target Russia\u2019s \u201cshadow fleet\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>President Zelensky was in the building and\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xi4jRKCcYI\">pic.twitter.com\/xi4jRKCcYI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Republicans against Trump (@RpsAgainstTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RpsAgainstTrump\/status\/2082261342732304442?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 29, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Weeks later, House Democrats now appear to be fighting tooth and nail to stop the bill from becoming law.<\/p>\n<p>Politico reported on Monday that the bill \u201cis at serious risk of languishing in the House, where it is suffering from significant Democratic opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s their beef? Democrats allegedly fear the bill would give President Donald Trump too much additional tariff power.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters on Monday that top Democrats have expressed \u201cstrong opposition\u201d to the bill \u201cbecause it risks providing tariff and sanctions authority to Donald Trump and his administration that we believe they will abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so, I have some serious concerns with the legislation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Listen:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Democratic leader <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJeffries?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepJeffries<\/a> (D-NY) on oppositions to the Russia Sanctions bill, championed by the late Sen. According to him, the bill could undermine Putin\u2019s ability to wage war by cutting off\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zzp8vSFkAf\">pic.twitter.com\/zzp8vSFkAf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1fa96.png\" alt=\"\ud83e\ude96\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/>MilitaryNewsUA<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f1fa-1f1e6.png\" alt=\"\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\udde6\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/> (@front_ukrainian) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/front_ukrainian\/status\/2094314365683900795?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 31, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, several Democrats from the House and Senate have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/newsroom\/minority\/democratic-leaders-release-statement-urging-white-house-not-to-wait-to-restart-stalled-russia-sanctions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> to the White House urging the president to impose additional sanctions on Russia without waiting for the added power that the bill would provide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump already has ample authority to impose sanctions on the companies, individuals, and vessels propping up a Russian war machine that continues its deadly attacks on Ukraine,\u201d they said. \u201cCongress does not need to greenlight new tariff authority for the President to impose those sanctions on Russia today. Delaying sanctions makes them less effective while the Kremlin continues to expand its schemes to procure foreign technology and funding. Ukrainians need our support now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the President to use his broad, existing sanctions authorities to target the companies, individuals, and vessels that enable Russia\u2019s war machine, including actors operating in or supporting any one of seventeen different sectors of the Russian economy. This is just one way the United States used to regularly sanction all types of targets to degrade Russia\u2019s access to critical supplies and funds it needs to sustain its war on Ukraine,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>The irony of all this hasn\u2019t escaped critics.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">They oppose the sanctions on Russia now?
