Now the federal law enforcement operation appears ready to add more tech to its arsenal courtesy of Boston Dynamics and its dog-like robot, Spot.

According to details published via the Acquisition Planning Forecast System, DHS estimates between $1 million and $2 million for a contract with the company to assist operations.

The description for the acquisition forecast reads in part, ICE “has a requirement to purchase Boston Dynamics SPOT Robots and accessories support public safety and law enforcement operations by providing a remotely operated robotic capability for inspection, situational awareness, and hazard assessment in environments that may pose risks to personnel.”

“This capability helps improve officer safety, supports informed operational decision-making, and enhances DHS’s ability to respond to incidents involving dangerous, confined, unstable, or difficult-to-access areas,” added DHS, as an official confirmed to NBC News the robots won’t be used for arrests.

As it happens, law enforcement agencies in the United States have already begun implementing robots.
