The vice president credited James Vance, his papaw, with being a stabilizing and influential figure in his life while growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed fired back with a disturbing tweet posted Saturday in which he suggested that Vance\u2019s grandparents wouldn\u2019t have been accepting of Usha on account of her Indian ancestry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no\u2026\u201d the Michigan Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AbdulElSayed\/status\/2091151440433623395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The tweet prompted massive backlash, with critics accusing El-Sayed of being a \u201cracist creep,\u201d among other things. He later doubled down in an MS-NOW interview late Saturday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/second-lady-usha-vance-fires-back-pointed-jab-democratic-senate-nominee-abdul-el-sayed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe confusing thing about it is that he thinks that there are some people who are more American than others because they can point to their papaw who was here earlier,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd my question to him is simply: Why is it then, how do you look your parents-in-law in the eye and say that somehow they\u2019re less American than you are? And I would have really, really, really loved to have met them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also spoke about her first time visiting Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had never been to Ohio before meeting JD,\u201d she revealed. \u201cI had no idea what to expect. He makes fun of me because I thought it would look more like Iowa, which obviously it does not. And whatever expectations I might\u2019ve had were blown up when I got there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, it\u2019s a culturally diverse place in many ways. It has all sorts of traditions that were new to me in other ways, but the people are so welcoming. Everyone has been really loving. They are my family.
