President Donald Trump revealed on Friday that he has an $850 million war chest that he intends to use to prop up \u201cgood Republican candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019ve raised a lot, and nobody knows what it is, but I will tell you, it\u2019s about $850 million,\u201d the president told reporters before boarding Air Force One en route to South Carolina. \u201cI\u2019ll be spending a lot of that money for candidates that I think are good, Republican candidates that I think are good.\u201d<\/p>\n

To be clear, the war chest isn\u2019t owned by the president but rather by the MAGA Inc. super PAC, according to Benzinga<\/a>. The PAC was foundational to Trump\u2019s 2024 presidential election victory.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s announcement this Friday comes at a time when Republican groups and PACs hold a major financial edge over their Democratic counterparts courtesy of their blockbuster fundraising.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Republican National Committee reported $128.5 million cash on hand at the end of June, compared with $16.3 million for the Democratic National Committee,\u201d according to The National News Desk<\/a>. \u201cThe DNC also reported $18.5 million in debt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to the president\u2019s remarks, however, leftists warned Republicans that all the money his PAC has raised would be pointless unless he spent it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe looks reluctant to share it,\u201d The Economist<\/a> reported just days earlier. \u201cMAGA Inc has spent just $2.3m, 0.6% of its resources, to help Republicans win elections so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is true. And because of this, in fact, while Republican PACs\/groups are faring well, many Democratic candidates hold a cash advantage over their GOP opponents. This is why it\u2019s indeed vital that MAGA Inc. start spending money, the sooner the better.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake the Senate race in Texas. James Talarico, the Democratic nominee, raised $28m in the second quarter of this year, while his Republican opponent, Ken Paxton, raised a puny $1.6m,\u201d according to The Economist.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocratic candidates hold an advantage in other states, too. In the nine most competitive Senate elections, they had around $116m in cash on hand, compared with just $51m for Republicans,\u201d the reporting continued.<\/p>\n

The good news is Trump has already started to intervene in the Talarico\/Paxton race:<\/p>\n

But more \u2014 potentially much more \u2014 is still needed, in large part due to the president\u2019s stunning unpopularity amid the tariffs and Iran War.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats hope Trump\u2019s declining national approval rating can expand the battleground and give them a chance at flipping more conservative states,\u201d according to Newsweek<\/a>. \u201cTheir top targets are Alaska, Iowa, Ohio and Texas, and polls show tight races for those seats.\u201d<\/p>\n

As it currently stands, University at Buffalo political science professor Shawn Donahue believes Democrats \u201cabsolutely\u201d have a chance at winning the Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we would have had this discussion a year ago, the answer probably would have been not very likely,\u201d he told Newsweek. \u201cI still think it\u2019s a hard road for them to win control of the Senate, but it definitely seems like it\u2019s doable now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nate Silver just dropped his Midterms model and it\u2019s one of the more bullish forecasts for Democrats.<\/p>\n

He has Democrats at a 57% chance to win the Senate. Democrats\u2019 chances to win the Senate on Kalshi climbed to 49% from 46%.<\/p>\n

Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington, said that he thinks the odds are \u201cabout 50\/50.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good news for Republicans is that the path to keeping their majority runs through states that President Trump won two years ago,\u201d he told Newsweek. \u201cThe bad news is that polls show that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans and that President Trump is particularly unpopular at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
