Trump in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>While Nixon\u2019s focus on a radical agenda may have powered the unexpected upset of her well-funded primary foe, running on socialism in a solidly red state is a different animal entirely, and Florida Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried tried to set her straight in the call that went off the rails, at one point degenerating into a shouting match, sources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/08\/21\/florida-democrats-angie-nixon-nikki-fried-socialism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Axios.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">(Axios) \u201cStop gaslighting me!\u201d: Florida Democrats\u2019 US Senate nominee and party chair have heated call over socialism<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s new Democratic Senate nominee, Angie Nixon, and the state party\u2019s chair had a heated conversation Friday which included a yelling match about the impact\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/do2BRVkL44\">pic.twitter.com\/do2BRVkL44<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Politics &amp; Poll Tracker <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f4e1.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\udce1\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/> (@PollTracker2024) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PollTracker2024\/status\/2090937235159855301?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cStop gaslighting me!\u201d Nixon reportedly yelled at one point, underscoring the conflict between insurgent candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the party establishment, which is in a state of panic over wins by a cadre of DSA-backed Dems in primaries this summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou never gave a care about me from the beginning, and now you\u2019re telling me how to run my campaign?\u201d Nixon told Fried, according to one source quoted by the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>As could be expected, both sides offered differing versions of what went down on the call. \u201cAccording to two people who spoke with Nixon, both she and Fried yelled at each other over the course of the call. Another person who spoke to Fried said the chair did not yell but was yelled at,\u201d Axios reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNikki wants her to back away from DSA, from socialism,\u201d an unnamed person who spoke with Nixon told the outlet. \u201cShe\u2019s listening to other people saying that they\u2019re afraid, they\u2019re scared \u2014 the Jewish members and the Hispanic caucus. But to Angie, Nikki doesn\u2019t want Angie to be who Angie is. Angie has already done the backing-away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An official for the Florida Democratic Party denied that the chairwoman yelled during the call with Nixon, stating that the party had made multiple attempts to contact the candidate\u2019s team to coordinate the campaign, but the calls weren\u2019t returned, according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DSA label could create an opening for misinformation and allow Angie\u2019s opponents to define her in ways that don\u2019t reflect her actual record or positions, rather than letting voters hear directly from Angie about what she believes and what she\u2019s running on,\u201d the source said<\/p>\n<p>Nixon staked her claim to fame earlier this year when she disrupted a state legislature vote on redistricting that was backed by outgoing, term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Remember this crazy lady?
